That means you think we cut Reed and eat some dead money.

I want to agree with you (feel the same way based on the limited sample size I have seen/heard), but I can't help but think the FO will be hesitant to blatantly admit the Reed contract was a mistake and therefore will give a spot to Reed, perhaps under the guise of KO return ability alone.

Unless you think maybe Thompson gets cut, which I suppose is still a possibility, though from the 'talk' sounds like a slim possibility.

It also means that if we shop for a late veteran FA (that gets cut from another team) we would need to jettison yet another WR.

I really have no idea who those final 2-3 spots will be come week 1.

I agree that PS and/or mystery IR will be used to hoard someone we like but not enough to take up a spot.

Well, 1st-team O looked kinda crappy. 1st-team D looked decent. But it was 2 series for each, so that doesn't mean much. Otherwise, some production from LQ and a few others looking for jobs. No serious injuries.

All in all, a decent start to the season.

Harbs non-committal on injuries. Says we are looking pretty good right now, but also said MRIs would be coming tomorrow.

Meh. If the contract was a mistake, it wasn't a big one: He did get a 1/2Mil signing bonus. But he's scheduled to make just barely over the veteran minimum in base salary each of the next 2 seasons. Even if he "only" returns kicks, I wouldn't say that's at all unreasonable for a guy who led the entire NFL in KO returns 2 seasons ago.

Really, the price is right. The only question is whether we can afford to have a return specialist/ST-coverage player taking a roster spot when we need help at wide-out.

I think Reed will get cut, he can't stay healthy. I am not one of those people that is against he guy for the Seattle game either. He had one bad game, people don't talk about the KO return against Houston that won us the game after they came back to OT
I just think that we also have Jackson, Thompson with return abilities. Rainey also showed some good skills there as well. I like the guy but unless he comes back strong he has a slippery slope in an already uphill battle.
I think that Thompson is a lock to make the team. I give every player a pass tonight with the weather but most importantly it's the first preseason game. The ones weren't on the field long enough to get in a rhythm. Well see how things work out next week. Streeter needed to have the game that Williams had tonight. Williams kind if disappeared for a while but he proved he is effective on ST and can hold onto the ball( would have liked to see him use his hands on the TD, and not let it come into his body),brown is also pretty shifty for a tall receiver. I see brown taking streeter spot and Williams taking Rees spot as the ST ace.

Is Pierce definitely ok, or is he one of the guys getting an MRI tomorrow?

I'm at least a little worried that Jacoby, Doss and Thompson are the guys leading the depth chart behind Torrey right now. None of them are particularly impressive or reliable to me right now. Some of the guys lower on the totem pole stood out as having potential to me. Why is Tommy Streeter so invisible? He has all the physical tools, why can't he do this at the level he needs to in order to be successful? Shame.

I never said it was a big mistake. But giving a guy guaranteed money means you likely project him to make the roster. The question is whether the contract will affect the decision as to the roster. Not saying it will or will not, but human nature is such that it might.

Yeah, the price is right, but the roster spot is what I am talking about. And LQW's price is lower.

The point is, when trying to predict the 6 WRs we keep, Reed is a big question mark.

Reed's cap hit isn't enough to make a big stink about. We need players to fill the roster spots. Hopefully plays in another preseason game to get a look at him. I like him, but he could be Mr. Glass.

Smith is definitely an under the radar pick up. I expect he'll take over the defensive signal caller since he brings a wealth of experience.

Bynes might start over Brown to start the season. He looked good.

Streeter caught the only pass thrown to him and noticed he was bracketed on a few plays. I'd like to see him get a few more targets before we write him off. Marlon Brown is making it easy to forget about him though.

Where was Simon? I admit I didn't see much of the game but was he mentioned?

Hamilton wants to make the team really bad. We have a lot of depth at OLB.

Elam looked like a heat seeking missile when attacking the running back.

Jacoby is who he is. Old dogs don't learn new tricks. Spot duty as a WR and keep running back kicks please.

I hope Pierce didn't get a serious injury. My impression was he was contacted after he crossed the goal line.

Laquan made a few nice catches. The young wide receivers were flipped upside down in effectiveness.

    Doss was disappointing.

Furstenburg made a nice catch in traffic.

Shiancoe was a nice pick up and will be a weapon this year. I tried to blow him up when we got him and I heard crickets.

I'm sure the team will be looking at film and there will be some ass chewing. Can't wait for the next game.

That's what they said when they drafted him. He comes up on the runner faster and
harder than Pollard and covers better too.

If he keeps that up he might be the steal of the draft going at the very bottom.

    Another Reed????

Coleman said on 105.7 that Brown will be impacting by the end of the year
and just in time for the playoffs. Slow starting but he's learning. He's
    had an excellent camp.
