That's a lot but if with the cap going up it's still something they can deal with. If Stanley retired in 2023 the Ravens would actually save $1.5 million in cap space.

Contracts under DeCosta aren't as bad as they were under Ozzie because they aren't as backloaded. Of course when they get reworked to clear space in a current year all that planning goes out the window
Yes, it only crushes the cap the one year, but it really CRUSHES it. You're looking at a total cap cost of $41MM for Ronnie Stanley to NOT play for the Ravens in 2022. So you still have to pay a left tackle. And re-sign or replace Averett and Bozeman, as well as a bunch of other FA starters like Campbell, JSmith, BWill, Ricard, Houston, and Bynes. And then there's that "signing Lamar Jackson" thing. The Ravens don't have a lot of 2022 cap space to work with.

Having a big contract like that come to a screeching halt unexpectedly is brutal. It can cripple your franchise. That's what happened with Ray Rice. No one budgets for an accelerated cap hit like that. That's why Pitta kept going on IR. It spreads out the cap hit so at least you don't have to release half your roster.

Only if the team goes after it. I don't think the Ravens have ever gone after such money in the past. Also, if Stanley were to retire it would be due to injury. He would have a good case in an arbitration hearing.

Yup, to the tune of $41.2M. Let's just pray that Stanley will be healed and ready to resume his career next season.
