    Arrington Pay Cut

Good news: Kyle Arrington is taking a pay cut.

Bad news: Kyle Arrington is still going to be on this football team.

Good news: 1 year of added experience in the system. Not to mention we'll have a significant better secondary and pass rush after adding Suggs, Wilson, and putting Webb at FS.

Looking at his contract, it actually might not be bad news. We could have saved $1.4MM by cutting him. We might be saving close to that with his pay cut, in which case, well, you can never have too many CBs.

Yeah the issue is finding someone with similar experience and history of talent at a comparable price. Yes, he did have a down year, but he could potentially come back and be a serviceable player in the nickel and dime packages.

We if they stop playing so many damned people out of position they wouldn't have half of these problems.

    Re: Arrington Pay Cut

And the FO has established precedent that they are serious about it when they request a pay cut.
They showed with Webb that they will keep somebody, and with Haloti/Boldin... that they will clear the person out if the pay cut doesn't happen.

I'm not saying it is fun or pleasant, but when a player is approached they know it is deal or be dealt.

It is value to the team, and with the salary cap the Ravens have a system that they developed and work within.
It allows them to pay (overpay?) to retain core/key pieces, then everything else is relative value, highlighted by 80% of the production at 20% of the pay.
Arrington's new number means he is now worth keeping, also means players like Levine are in a scramble for a roster spot again ($200,000 dead $1 million savings)

When you take into account the 600k it takes to replace him with a new player...it's only about 800k in savings. I have a feeling he took an 800k pay cut.

Still think he can play if they use him correctly in the slot. With Webb moving to safety, that seems to open up the possibility.

Agreed. He's a slot guy, keep him there. Putting him on an island is a recipe for what we saw last year... not good

    +1

I had colored Arrington gone, with a "good riddance", and am pleasantly surprised at the move. No doubt Arrington will stay in the slot for nickel and dime packages. Ozzie is showing us an array of moves, and it's still early.
