Convert Jimmy Smith to FS.
So this was actually mentioned by Rhapsody in another post and I actually like the idea.
Even with a full off season to rehab and missing 4 games to suspension, it never looked like Jimmy was back to 100%. I saw many times him tackling a WR that got behind him and a few times that he would have been absolute toast if the QB would have connected.
While I dont think he's washed totally, i just dont think he has the speed anymore to keep up with the top WRs. With Humphrey, Carr and Young as the premier CBs, moving Jimmy to FS would be a great move and help with continuity.
That being said, not even looking at his contract with this move, just the move itself.
Thoughts??

A $12 million free safety? That's worse than a $12 million corner. If you are going to do this the price has to come way down.

Yes he has to take a pay cut regardless, or it may be time to move on

Re: Convert Jimmy Smith to FS.
I like this idea of moving him to safety, if we lose Weddle we still need a veteran with a high football IQ on the back end. He’s a physical tackler with good zone coverage skills, can probably man up on tight ends and top wideouts when OCs move them to the slot...

Several of us have thought of this. Gota is right though but Jimmy needs to take a pay cut regardless imo. Not even ed reed was making that much

Re: Convert Jimmy Smith to FS.
Get his money right ...and I’m for it. It worked ( kinda) for Webb. It worked for Woodson. Jimmy has value. The wheels aren’t like before but he’s a good tackler and has good instincts. I don’t know that I’d run with Carr. He’s cool for depth but if they move or move on from Jimmy ....gotta draft a CB. Need youth and speed out on the edge. Carr has played great ...but he’s 100 yrs old.

Re: Convert Jimmy Smith to FS.
Next year Weddle is around $9. Does anyone think that Jimmy Smith playing at a position he’s never played before would be better than Weddle?
You make this move to either improve the position or save money. If neither happens then what’s the point?
