Is SI Finished?
I remember when everyone used to subscribe to SI and you'd see their magazines on coffee tables, not so now. With the internet, ESPN, NFLN and other media outlets, are they going the way of Kodak and other dinosaurs of industry? The tabloid style reporting recently employed has brought this to light.

Re: Is SI Finished?
In a few days CNN will be canning them in favor of Bleacher Report. I'd imagine they got a lot of traffic from people clicking cnn.com->Sports.

Follow up article on Ray and the deer antler velvet magical extract potion.

Did the Ravens or Ray piss them off? No, they are struggling to be relevant.Last edited by Bigfish; 01-30-2013 at 01:45 AM.

Re: Is SI Finished?
Judging by a lot of the comments I'm seeing on these articles, the court of public opinion is that Mitch Ross is a scumbag and SI is irresponsible for even entertaining this guy as a credible source.

Re: Is SI Finished?
If you read the entire article it is astounding that anyone would look at the two guys from SWATs as credible at all. Neither has a science background, and one was a male stripper. It's all smoke and mirrors. If they were in the old west, they would be snake oil salesmen. Their biggest defense for their product, which is bogus-science, is: It's up to science to prove us wrong; it's not up to us to prove we are right. That's how crazy like a fox these two guys are.

Re: Is SI Finished?
"Dr. Roberto Salvatori, who runs a lab studying growth hormone deficiency and has been on the Hopkins faculty since 1998, said there is no scientifically accepted way to deliver IGF-1 orally.
“If there were, a lot of people would be happy that they don’t need to get shots anymore,” he said. “It’s just simply not possible for it to come from a spray.”
So the guy sells some shit that a doctor who studies the subject says is impossible to deliver orally.
In the following part of the story the guy sold someone some shit that was contaminated. He refused to hire a lawyer probably because there was no way to defend what happened. He then closed up shop and reopened 6 months later under a new name in an attempt to not have to pay the damages. Yes i think he is a 100% credible source and a hell of a stand up guy.
"In June 2009, Vobora failed an offseason test for the steroid methyltestosterone and was suspended for four games. He then had the bottle of S.W.A.T.S. deer-antler spray (retail price: $64) tested. According to court documents filed by one of Vobora's lawyers, it tested positive for methyltestosterone. Vobora's lawyers sent a letter to Ross offering to not file a lawsuit if Ross paid Vobora $1 million. (One of Vobora's lawyers later claimed that Vobora only wanted an apology and for the spray to be removed from the market.)
When Ross did not reply, Vobora sued S.W.A.T.S. in May '10, alleging a lack of quality control that allowed the spray bottle to be contaminated. (The S.W.A.T.S. spray is manufactured by a third party and -- as is customary in the sports-supplement industry -- simply branded as unique with a S.W.A.T.S. label.) When Ross declined to hire a lawyer to represent S.W.A.T.S., Vobora, without a trial, was granted a default victory and a $5.4 million award. "Today, I've been proven innocent," Vobora said on June 20, 2011. Ross shuttered his business and reopened six months later under a different corporate name, a strategy he hopes will forestall collection."

BOYCOTT!
I advise EVERY Raven fan in Maryland and around the world to cancel that shit rag Sports Illustrated and never buy or visit their website again. Period. And if I am the Ravens, office and players, I never give SI an interview again.
