On this day 77 years ago, during a 90 minute attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy, a total 2,403 U.S. personnel, including 68 civilians, were killed and another 1,178 were wounded.

FDR knew, it all could have been avoided, but he wanted an excuse to join the war instead of just joining it.

I couldn't go on a boat without getting sick. So my wife schedules a boat trip on all big vacations.

Honeymoon in HI - 6 hour snorkeling cruise where every hour between bouts of vomiting I have to get up and jump into the ocean and snorkel around.... Glad I love her because that would have been a deal breaker for me.

Jeez that's awful! So much other fun stuff you can do without being on a boat. Hope you feel better asap, btw!

I work on ships, and believe it or not there are people who get seasick and still go out to sea for a living. I think they are crazy!

Thank you. Yeah, the volcano was really fun. We hiked for miles out to the surface breakouts. This was long before the current awesomeness that's going on there (not for the people who lost homes) but they knew what they were getting into, I promise you they knew. I researched the hell out of moving there and you know what's up. I didn't go because the job situation is so bleak,plus in academia you really can't leave once you start, it's a trap.
