John Harbaugh may have opened the door for special-teams coordinators

Nice article on Harbaugh from the guys at PFT. Good to see him getting some recognition for his achievements:

A couple of years ago I heard Bobby April gushing about Harbaugh. April was also a career special teams coach and one of the best. He got just 1 interview for a head coach position after decades of coaching. April felt that Harbaugh broke the glass ceiling for guys like him. Glad to see it happen.

I thought this was an interesting take in regards to some of the advantages on having a special teams background. Makes complete sense to me. I guess the biggest irony is the lack of success/explosiveness in the return game and some of that is just David Reed not being able to stay injury free. Kudos to John on being a trendsetter and bigger one to our owner for having the courage to pull the trigger on this hire.
