Bernard Pollard on fines...
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...game/#comments
“This is a game where it’s a car crash; this is a game where guys are putting it on the line; this is a game where coaches are trying to out-strategize other coaches across the field, and it takes 11 guys to get it done."
If you noticed down on the commentary portion of this a guy talks about how if the league really cared about the safety of players they'd make all of the players wear the safest helmet on the market. I was just curious, but according to a Virginia Tech study the safest helmet is the Riddell Speed Revolution, pictured below with the article attached.

So, the NFL can make players wear specific socks, gloves, cleats, etc, but why can't (or don't) they make it mandatory for all NFL players to wear the safest gear on the market? I know a lot of the players wear the REVO Speed helmets now - especially in college - however if I were Goodell this is something that I'd enforce and be happy to enforce it.Disclaimer: The content posted is of my own opinion.

Same thing with knee pads, thigh pads, and hip/tailbone pads.
I see guys out there all the time without these pads on and then they take a shot to the thigh or land on the hard turf and bruise their hip or get a deep muscle stinger in their leg.
I often wonder if some of these injuries are preventable with - not even better - the equipment that is available to them that they're choosing not to use.Disclaimer: The content posted is of my own opinion.

There's definitely some inconsistency when it comes to the NFL "claiming" they're gearing towards safety. You'd think helmets would be one of the first things they changed or made mandatory, but no they're just worried about finding more ways to fine players.
"What would you give for the man beside you?"

It's absolutely inconsistent.
Hypocritical if you ask me.Disclaimer: The content posted is of my own opinion.

Re: Bernard Pollard on fines...
It is an inconsistency and it's ridiculous. I don't know if it has to do with licensing, though I somehow doubt it, but you still see players using the old Riddell VR4 helmets, which are donkey's years old now. The advancements made since then in protection offered by helmets would dictate that if there were any common sense players would be obliged to wear the newest and most safest from their preferred brand.
It seriously baffles me. Even if it isn't enforced by the league, why wouldn't a player choose to do this?

Re: Bernard Pollard on fines...
I thought mouth pieces were mandatory. I know may player have them, but without the strap (attaching it to the facemask). So maybe it just looks like they don't have a mouth piece.
Not using one would be very stupid. Aside form biting your tongue and concussions, even the ones not attached to the face mask seem like choking hazards. A player gets knocked sensless, what is to keep him from choking on the mouth piece.

The NFL could even do it the way hockey phased in helmets. Let the older guys who insist on using the older helmets keep 'em, but dictate that all newcomers switch over to the safer helmets.
Are the safer helmets used in college? That would be another good place to start.

I think MEN should have some say in what equipment they prefer to wear. They aren't children.

Re: Bernard Pollard on fines...
This is supposed to go into effect next year I believe. They're going to require all of those pads to be worn.
Soightly OT - was listening to Madden interview and he was complaining about how Oline players of old wore huge pads all over their body and were very physical. Today some of those guys wear tiny shoulder pads.
He even used the Boller pick 6 as an example. On 3rd and 1 they didn't think they could power run it so they brought in Pryor to run a wldcat type trick play but he was flagged for illegal motion. That put them back and Boller had to throw.

Re: Bernard Pollard on fines...
Normally I would agree HK, but the issue is that the NFL regulates things like cleats, gloves, towels, etc...yet the one piece of equipment that could increase the safety of a player isn't enforced?
Just seems incredibly hypocritical when all they do is preach player safety and then don't make the safest helmet on the market the mandatory helmet?Disclaimer: The content posted is of my own opinion.
