    Re: Planned trip to Baltimore

I cannot disagree more with you, Fanatic.

I travel every week and the bed bug issue is totally overblown. I sleep in hotel beds more often than my own and 99.9999999% of them are free of any issues, including the vast majority of hotels in Baltimore.

I am far more concerned with the sometimes crusty nature of the duvet cover than I am worried about bed bugs.

    Re: Planned trip to Baltimore

Nothing personal Houston, but I can assure you I know far more on this subject then you could possibly fathom.

Consider yourself fortunate and lucky that you haven't had the misfortune of having to deal with Bedbugs.

The company I work for as well as many others in the line of business I'm in has delegated millions of dollars and countless man hours to dealing with and eliminating thousands of infestations world wide.

One of my superiors in the district I'm out of has done countless symposiums given to hotel chains, real estate management companys, apartment management firms, etc. in an effort to try and help them reduce the dollars it costs them in having to pay companys like mine to eliminate the critters and limit how much lost revenue they encounter from having to shut down rooms, apartments, etc.

My personal advise to you and anybody else reading this would be to do a thorough inspection of any room you stay in that is not your own.
Strip the beds, look behind the head boards, check the crevices of the bed frames, look behind pictures on the walls, look around at the base mouldings of the walls.

There are members on this board that have had, or their family members have had encounters with bed bugs that have sought out my advise on what to do.

Next time you're in B-more, call 105.7 the fan and talk to Steve Davis who had to deal with them when he traveled not that long ago.

    Check It Out

    Another Piece

Challenge me on this if you wish Houston, but my best suggestion would be for you and anybody else to take my advise above when traveling.

Be careful when you go to the library, movie theater, any place where the general public might have a seat for awhile including your doctors waiting room.

    You want more info.?:respect

If you say you have expertise, I believe you.

But I read the same news outlets and everything I read says the problem is (1) mostly over now and (2) largely confined to the NE states.

Yes, if you have something that contradicts that, I'd love to read it since I do travel for work often.

Regardless of where I travel, I always follow a few basic rules:

    • try to place suitcase on wood or tile floor only
    • wash all clothes - clean or dirty - as soon as I enter the house
    • don't bring suitcase into the house -- straight to garage attic or inside vehicle parked under Sun for a few days -- to cook any unwanted critters

    Re: Planned trip to Baltimore

I've travelled a lot and been fortunate to avoid this issue. Having said that, I was staying in a hostel in Adelaide, Australia where I met someone who had gotten bedbugs in a hostel he'd stayed in a few nights previously and it was horrific- his entire body was covered in angry red marks. Poor fella.

I also saw a suspected case at a hostel I was staying in in Perth, and the staff went mental to contain it and ensure there were no further problems so I've seen the efforts establishments go to. I was there for another month and there were no more problems.

I hopefully will be ok in Baltimore as I will be staying in a major chain, who will be well aware of the negative PR that would be associated with a case of bed bugs.

I'll be in hostels in NY and DC, but again, they are part of a major chain (Hostelling International) so hopefully should be up to scratch, especially in comparison to some of the dives I've stayed at in the past!!

I just wanted to address this point. Tickets for the Thanksgiving game will be VERY cheap the day of game, particularly if all you want is a single. Even pairs for that game are difficult to sell in advance for more than face value.

I would estimate the game ticket should cast you no more than $25-$50 for a quality lower deck seat near gametime. Season ticketholders frequently come with exactly 1 extra ticket and they hold them up until they get to the front of the security line.

For the Bengals game I might up that one notch and say you'll pay up to $75 for a lower single depending on the race. I would not be surprised if you are given a ticket by some fan as they enter.

Travel around Thanksgiving in the US is typically more expensive.

    Good luck in any case.

    T---
I see that you and Greg are no longer in the lot where you were last year. Are you back by the railroad tracks where you were a few years ago? I spoke with Ben the day of the Steelers game but I ran out of time and never made it over to say goodbye before he headed back. That's where he was that day. I was over there a few years ago when Stockers was in town for the cold snowy Redskins game.

Yes, Toeman: back in Lot J. Exactly where we used to be until we had been scared off by the Casino threat to destroy Lot J (which now is about 99.9% over). Many of our group got tired of the post-game traffic mess co-mingling with Lot H traffic, so we opted to give up that great private lot in favor of our familiar old stomping grounds. All but Fells Point Raven.

Lot J is much better for traffic, but I will miss the privacy and wind protection.

We are very easy to find, now that the Stadium Authority in its infinite wisdom, has placed a huge yellow recycling bin adjacent to the grass plot which we staked for tailgating out many years ago.

What historic things do you want to see?
Gettysburg should be on your list.
    Ft McHenry.
    Greenmount Cemetery/John Wilkes Booth's Grave
    Edgar Allen Poe's Grave

Hey T--I hear ya on the Ostend St to Hanover St mess. They actually had police on motorcycles running back and forth from Hanover to Sharpe radioing the guys on Hanover to hold Hanover traffic and let us out. They were holding up the side streets as well. It was slightly better after the Houston game.
I am still at Sharpe and Ostend in the credit union lot. I will stop by Lot J and say hello. Is Greg with you?
Ravenblue needs to have a great time tailgating in November.

    Re: Planned trip to Baltimore

    Marchetti,

Not sure how much I'll be able to fit in as I'm only going to be in Baltimore for a short while- 2 of these are game days, the other is the evening I land! Having said that, I definately intend to visit Fort McHenry, probably before I get the train to DC. I'd also like to visit the Aqarium as one of my colleages has said it is worth doing. Any ideas what the liklihood of either of these places being open on 'Black Friday' (my other free morning!)?

Hopefully this will be the first of many trips over, so I'll look to see other sites, particularly Gettysburg another time.

    Toeman,

Definately looking forward to some tailgating, and i'll be arriving early anyway as I'll need to pick up my ticket from 'Will Call'. As I don't land until Saturday evening, I'm not sure I'd be able to bring anything, but I'd be more than happy to chip in anything needed to contribute. Would this be ok?

    Re: Planned trip to Baltimore

Plenty of food and beer will be there. We have a group of 20-30 people tailgating each game. Someone volunteers and brings all the food for the group and is reimbursed--usually $5 for canned beer and $10 for food. I got ya covered.
I am not sure if the ice luge is coming to either game but there are lots of pictures of different UKRavens taking their shot of spirits off the large block of ice.
