Wide Receivers
I don't think any of us ever thought the Ravens would have this problem but we seem to have a glut of receivers.
Boldin
Smith
Evans
Reed
Doss
Williams
I'm pretty sure we usually only keep five on the roster but I don't think that Williams is going to make it to the practice squad if we try to slip him on it. Maybe we can drop one of the ILBs, or trade Redding and one of them for a back-up tackle.
It's a weird, but nice problem."A moron, a rapist, and a Pittsburgh Steeler walk into a bar. He sits down and says, “Hi I’m Ben may I have a drink please?”

Re: Wide Receivers
I wouldn't get too excited. As I see it there's ...
Evans
Boldin
Smith
Doss
I don't understand what everyone sees in Reed, what has he done in terms of receiving? ... a.k.a. what am I missing here? (serious question)
I see Reed making the roster as a return man and therefore a depth WR.
They're obviously gonna keep Smith and Doss. That leaves one spot. Looking at the roster I wouldn't know who to stick in there except that Hardy ain't gonna make it.
What'd ya think of Evans though? ... I told you he wasn't just a deep ball guy, the boy can run routes, has great hands, and can wiggle around underneath too.
No question in my mind that he ends up being your leading WR this season, although I still see Boldin posting a 1K season too.
I'm more concerned about TE as well, I like Dickson but what's the depth after him? Alarming.
Nevertheless, a solid group of starters and we saw what Rice could do with some serious receivers, IMO the best collection in a while as we'll see, at least in terms of a starting tandem like Evans and Boldin who should compliment each other and work well together opening things up for Dickson even more. I expect Smith to contribute as a #3 quickly and hopefully Doss will too.

Re: Wide Receivers
This may sound new to some, but I could actually see them keep 6. This is my very first time thinking 6 is reasonable at all.
Here's why:
First of all, the kickoffs being moved forward limits the value of special teams ONLY players.
AND
The fact that three of the guys would still be options in the ST game, mainly Reed and Williams, but if Doss passes Smith then Torrey should be returning kicks.

Re: Wide Receivers
BTW, I just looked, this is the best QB/RB/2 WR quartet that the Ravens have ever had!!
I see the potential here this season for them to put up numbers similar to what Testeverde did in '96.
Rice is Bam Morris and Byner combined, ... sort of. LOL Not in style, but in numbers I'd much rather have him as he's a consumate RB and not a specialist. He's a better version of Byner in his prime.
As to Flacco, OK, he's no Tom Bundschen, but so what, who is, and he's better than any QB that the Ravens have ever had with the exception of that brief stay by Testeverde for one season.
As to Evans and Boldin, tell me which WR-ing tandem you'd rather have starting for you? I'll see if I agree.
Some of the better ones...
Wayne/Collie
Jackson/Maclin (although IMO Vick's going to regress in passing this year)
Nicks/Manningham
Who am I missing?
I think that you'll end up seeing Evans/Boldin put up 2,500/20+ between them.
The OL has some issues, but it's not horrible like everyone here makes it out to be. Watch the Bills for a while and then come back and watch your line, you'll think it's on the cusp of being all-pro. LOL
Point being, it's average and adequate given your skill position talent.

Re: Wide Receivers
Perhaps. Either way though, the starting tandem is better than anything that the Ravens have ever had. I realize that there are still some doubts as to how good Evans is, but I'm tellin' ya, he starts at Mason in his prime. Boldin you already know.
Someone will aspire to a solid #3, so unless Boldin or Evans gets hurt, and both have solid durability histories, it'll be fine. I fully expect to see a top-10 offense this year, perhaps even a top-5 or 6.
I'm far more concerned with the play of the D overall and depth there.

Re: Wide Receivers
If I didn't know one was a 2nd rounder and the other a UDFA, I'd say "welcome aboard LaQuan" and "see ya in Cutsville, Torrey." Of course, it's only 2 games.

Re: Wide Receivers
??
Pitta has shown me far more than Dickson. (not that I think Dickson will be a bad TE by any stretch, but I've seen more to be encouraged by from Pitta than Dickson.)
I don't think we'll have any receiving worries from the TE position. (now blocking on the other hand....)

Re: Wide Receivers
Squishy, I was looking throught the threads to make sure I wasn't duplicating in saying almost the same thing. We've been watching this team for a long time and have seen a few players sprinkled among the revolving door of has beens, coulda beens, and might bes. This is the first year in the last 12 that i can remember looking at the roster and seeing so deep a sure-handed, tested receiving corps. We've never had 2 #1s on this team. Boldin is a stud, this game notwithstanding, he should be looking at a probowl season. Evans is a solid talent who should see plenty of big plays this season. I've been excited about Reed since we drafted him and while the jury is still out, he seems like the real deal, RR is a better reciever that even Chester Taylor, both young TEs are carving out big future paydays and we have never had a rookie crop that has realized some potential on the field as fast as these guys.
they all seem fearless. If nothing else, that's a huge difference. This recieving corps seems to have quiet, humble but definitive SWAG. I love it.
