Jarrett Johnson rated the #1 4-3 OLB by PFF.

    http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog...ers-2008-2010/

    1. Jarret Johnson, Baltimore Ravens

Even though he’s top of this list, you wonder sometimes if Johnson is a little miscast in how the Ravens use him. A truly elite linebacker who is unmatched in run defense, Johnson has never (nor can you imagine him becoming) a player who puts the quarterback under consistent pressure. But, he’s a huge part of one of the greatest run defenses in the league, and has finished with our highest grade among 4-3 OLBs in run defense for two of the past three years.

    Grade: +50.2
    .
His ability vs the run is incredible and makes just replacing him almost impossible. You want him out there on run downs.

Hopefully Kindle or one of the young quick guys can get JJ out of there on passing downs though.

JJ has been the unsung hero on the ravens defense for years. He is fundamentally sound and and is always in the right place. Kind of a stretch to call him the best sam linebacker in the game though. PFF comes up with some pretty wild rankings.

They need to be drug tested.

It's not often that you and I see eye-to-eye, Cap'n, but I have to agree with you on this one.

JJ: You look like the Pilsbury Dough Boy!
    Chuck: HeeHee!
Sizzle: You say something about biscuits??

Didn't you get the message that PFF is the new gospel. They have all the stats to back it up ;)

This is why PFF is a joke.

Anyone who watches a game can clearly see that even though JJ is a good player, there is no way he's THE best 4-3 OLB in the game. Especially when more often than not the Ravens ran multiple fronts, which would negate the idea or notion that he was even a 4-3 OLB to begin with.

Chad Greenway is easily the best 4-3 OLB in the league. I know this because I watch games and that guy is money against the pass and against the run.

I'd also toss out James Anderson and Jon Beason as well (though Beason did float between MLB and OLB for the Panthers last year).

I believe that this was also the website that claimed Quinten Mikell of the Eagles was the #1 strong safety in the league...

Not Troy Polamalu. Not Roman Harper. Not Dawan Landry.

    Nope.

    Quinton Mikell.

I find it hard to believe that people actually believe these sites, before what is actually seen on the field.

You will find that when a Raven is ranked highly on a site that the site is dead on.

Yet curiously when a Raven isn't ranked that high, said site is terrible.

Jarrett Johnson himself would probably laugh at that ranking.

I lost confidence in the site when Fabian Washington was ranked as a top 10 CB.

Remember that guy with the James Bond avatar on the other site who was always using them for a source? His contention was that they are all former scouts and that teams base their decisions on this info because it says so on the site.

To me it looks like a bunch of fantasy football guys trying to marry money-ball type concepts with the NFL. The problem is that this isn't baseball. You can't just make determinations based on stats. That's why coaches will play guys you never heard of over guys who put up big numbers in the past.
