Re: Zorn fired
1. Why do they need a scapegoat? Why is it more likley a PR move than an actuall difference in philosophy or accountbility thing?
2. Did the O improve under Cam during his first 2 seasons? Sure it basically sucked this year compared to expectaions, but where did those expectations come from?

Re: Zorn fired
He is Harbaugh's guy. He is sticking to him. I have a lot of problems with Coach Special Teams but he is sticking with his guy. Maybe I am the only one who laughed when Harbs said he was getting more involved in the offense. Let's be honest, he is not qualified to oversee and offense so IMO he was deflecting criticism from his buddy.

Re: Zorn fired
Zorn was the only guy who said Joe couldn't handle the pressure in the 2d half in
Pissburgh.
He knew something nobody else knew. At least they didn't say it if they knew it.

Re: Zorn fired
Think about this.... Joe Flacco had not one, but three new wide receivers, a new QB coach, and a make shift offensive line minus a starting tackle. That O-line was putrid quite a bit last year and it really didn't look like Joe trusted the O-line to protect him. I watched a few of the games where Joe was getting sacked and it did look like the line couldn't hold up...just sayin'

Re: Zorn fired
It makes sense and adds clarity for me. I said all season that Flacco's progression basically stalled this year. What we couldn't figure out is if it was because of Flacco or Cam. I think this move clearly shows that the Ravens also felt that Flacco wasn't progressing and they feel it's because of Flacco and not Cam. Because if the Ravens have put Cam on notice as some have stated, I seriously doubt they're going to trust him with their franchise QB.
So I believe;
1a) The Ravens feel that Flacco hasn't progressed enough and it hurt the offense.
1b) They believe in Cam and his abilities to run an offense and they also feel he can get the most out of Flacco.
2) Zorn isn't a scapegoat he's a victim of his results. Flacco clearly took a step back this year as did the Oline and like Matsko he was rightfully let go.
Of all the moves so far I like this one the most. For me I couldn't figure what was wrong with the offense. I'd watch Flacco and he never looked right this year. It was like he thought he had all day because he took a ton of sacks, most of which where his fault. He missed open receiver after open receiver and he never looked like he had control of the position. I'd watch Sanchez, Bradford and even Boller when he was here looked like they have more control of the qb position then Flacco has. Last year I didn't have that concern with Flacco. So if I'm reading this right I now have a better feeling about Flacco and the offense next year.

Re: Zorn fired
As most know I am not a huge fan of Cam, but I am also more in the group that blames player execution for more of our shortcomings versus bad coaching. With that said there are 3 reasons why it makes more sense to keep Cam for 1 more year than it does to fire him.
1. Who would you seriously replace him with, the pool of OC's this year is maybe the worst ever. Childress may be a good coach but players hate the guy and he never takes blame and is willing to throw players under the bus. McDaniels ran a franchise QB and WR out of Denver seems to have same effect as Childress. Seriously who do you replace him with?
2. With the potential for no new CBA hiring a new OC is a very bad choice, if no deal is done by the March deadline any new hire would be handcuffed. With no CBA they can not practice or speak with players. How do implement a new offense if you can not interact with your players. lets say a deal gets done by June, do any of you seriously think that is enough time to put a new offensive system in place and have it be any more successful than what we saw this year?
3. With the two reasons above this is why you don't make snap judgements and just fire coaches because the fans are unhappy (and yes I am one of them) We are not the Lions, Browns, Bungles or any other POS team out there. If we start the trend now we will end up like the Oakland Raiders and personally I want no parts of that.
Do I think Cam is on thin ice, well I sure hope so. This has to be a make or break year for him, and personally I think letting Zorn go was a good move as others have said he is a WC guy and I don't know about anyone else but always felt Joe had way to many guys in his ear.Hating Steeler Fans Since Birth

Re: Zorn fired
So Flacco, who up to that point had been pretty decent, should've been benched at halftime?
I don't buy that. I could see them discussing it after the pick and fumble, but at halftime, our most recent memory on Joe's play would be the nice TD to Heap.
Preston had claimed also that they wanted to bench Flacco at halftime for the Falcons game too. I think it's bull..

Call me a Special Teams coach again. I dare you! I double dare you, MFer!

Re: Zorn fired
Zorn was right.
Flacco didn't handle the pressure in the 2d half. That's what everyone has
been complaining about.

Re: Zorn fired
You got it wrong with Preston...
Preston reported that Harbs and Cam wanted to replace Flacco after the 1st half of the ATL game, and Zorn was the one who told them not to make the change.

Re: Zorn fired
Did Flacco had his best half? no.
did Flacco fumble on an arm tackle, snap the ball early, or drop two perfectly thrown passes? no he didnt.
i think we all know it shouldnt have come down to that, but it is the NFL, you are going to play close games. Flacco, in the clutch, made two perfect passes that were flat out dropped. everyone has there faults, but good lord this has been Flacco bash for the past two weeks. it wasnt just Flacco it was the whole team. maybe for the next two weeks we can talk about how Webb got beat on 3rd and long.... behind him... can we move on yet?Disclaimer: I really don't know nothing about anything, so if i say something like i do, understand that i don't know what the hell i am talking about.
