O Woes - Dumbed Down Playbook?
Trent Dilfer interviewed on 105.7 yesterday and when asked about the Ravens offensive woes, it was his observation that the Ravens' O was predictable and that the great route running WR's were being asked to repeatedly attack the same small areas on the field. He then went on to say that opposing defenses quickly adjust to this pattern especially in crucial situations. T.J Hous interviewed later that day on 105.7 and in response to Dilfer's analysis all but said Trent was dead on but then went further on to say, as D. Mason has been saying all week, the WR's have to make plays.... no matter what's called. Interesting interviews and a lot of insight from an ex Raven QB and a current Raven receiver, but then I thought- predictable?.. predictable? When in Cam Cameron's career has a Cam Cameron offense been predictable? The beauty of his exotic and complicated offense, which has it's roots in the Don Coryell school of passing, is it's unpredictability. All of which begs the question, why would Cam Cameron whose passing offense was designed to be unpredictable in it's attack on the whole field suddenly find itself repeatedly attacking the same small areas on the field thus becoming predictable? Is Cam masking something with this strange strategy?
Could it be that Joe Flacco has yet to master Cam's complicated offense so the offensive playbook has been " dumbed down " to cover the many flaws in Joe Flacco's game? Should these offensive woes continue into the playoffs, will John Harbaugh prove he can make NFL HC decisions by pulling Flacco in favor of a worn but more experienced QB in the Coryell tradition, Marc Bulger, just as a change of pace to open up and spark this now dormant offense? What say you?

Flacco is their best chance to win. At this point in his career, Bulger is a good backup, but not a starter. Joe is a quality starter. He's not elite but he's good.
good starter >>>>> good backup

Re: O Woes - Dumbed Down Playbook?
At this point in his career, Bulger is a good backup? You arrived at this conclusion based on what? The FO guaranteed him 3 mill with 2 mill in incentives-that ain't exactly backup money. The whole point of this exercise is to pinpoint an obvious problem with the Ravens O and seek out possible options to solve that problem. Inserting Marc Bulger, a player with experience and past success in a system similar to Cam's, is a viable alternative to Joe Flacco should this offense continue to falter into the playoffs. Keep in mind, a good backup's job is not only to take over the reins of the offense when the starter is injured, but also it's a good backup's job to spark the offense when the starter can not.

:word
We tear down Joe on this board and then build him up by pointing to our record and his impressive stats, then tear him down again, but the truth is Marc Bulger is far better than a good backup. What little we saw of him in the preseason, our offense hummed when he was out there. This isn't to say he's our future, of course he's not. This also isn't to say yanking Joe wouldn't hurt his feelings at best or psyche at worst. But Bulger is probably a better QB at this point in Joe's young career -- not because Joe sucks, but b/c Bulger has seen more. At Bulger's point Flacco will probably be better. But as far as the risk of pulling Joe and inserting Marc, Harbs probably will never do it.My Ravens Blog: Brittany Rants About Football

Well said and well thought out. The most damning statement in your response is "..Harbs probably will never do it. ". All of which begs an even larger question-should John Harbaugh fall short of a SB appearance this year despite all the options he's been availed by Bisciotti, Ozzie and the FO, should his contract be extended or should this organization look to another experienced HC willing yo take the necessary risks to win it all? Keep in mind, this is the year of urgency for the Ravens Lombardi Trophy hopes with the window of opportunity all but shut with Ray and Reed all but retired by next season, the Ravens having the oldest team in the NFL with a long rebuilding or reloading process on the horizon, guaranteed poor draft position in a down draft year, and a possible CBA lockout for the next year.

Based on this...
Sam Bradford, a talented player but a rookie, came in and outperformed Bulger on his old team. I realize it's not the exact team Bulger played on last year, but looking at his stats over the last 3 years, I don't see him playing as well as Bradford did.
Also, Flacco's stats are comparable to Bulger's stats in his prime. Bulger is past his prime, therefore, he's not as good as Flacco.
REALITY CHECK!
This is the same thing Browns fans do with all their backup QB's. No matter who it is, they convince themselves that the backup player is better than they actually are. They do this because they want to believe that there is hope for something better than what they see on the field, but their usually deceiving themselves. People on this board have pointed out time and again how foolish this behavior is when the Browns and other franchises do it, but now we're the ones doing it, at we actually have a good quarterback!

Re: O Woes - Dumbed Down Playbook?
Here's some simple facts. This season, Joe Flacco has for the third time in his career, had his best season statistically. He has also had his best season in terms of wins and losses.
I said it the last time you posted this garbage and I'll say it again.
