Unlike in the United States, Frederick Douglass was treated with equality like everyone else in Ireland. No seperate restuarants or accomodations. No racial epithets.

He spent time in Cork during the Famine and made three public appearances which drew thousands. Douglass once said of his time in Ireland: "I have spent some of the happiest moments of my life since landing in this country."
