Billick's "parameters" on Al Davis and T.O

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/dan...ml?eref=fromSI

Former Ravens and current Fox NFL analyst Brian Billick called in to discuss all things NFL.

Billick doesn't think the Raiders will have a difficult time finding a top-level coach because Oakland has a long, storied history and most NFL people will take any job that becomes available. He also says he's embarrased for Al Davis for yesterday's performance and thinks the NFL should step in and remedy the situation. Billick thinks Davis shouldn't have gone public saying Lane Kiffin shouldn't be paid.

Would Billick consider taking the Raiders job if it was offered to him? He doesn't think Davis and him would be a good fit because it needs to be a partnership between owner and coach, which he doesn't think he'd have with Davis. If intervied for the position, however, Billick would ask if he'd have final say on which players and coaches end up on his team. He also notes that Kiffin deserves blame for putting the situation in the public eye.

If Billick was Terrell Owens' coach, he'd talk about a partnership earlier in the season so Owens knows the lines of communication are open and he doesn't go to the press. Billick talks about an incident in Minnesota when Cris Carter was frustrated with Warren Moon for showing him up when Moon missed him on a pass route. When he went back to the sideline, Moon told him to never do that again or he'd never see another pass thrown his way. Carter got the message loud and clear.

Billick is a media master. it is the matriculation that stymies him.

I love the guy though and he is very good at explaining stuff even if it does not really make sense, he will make it sound like it did.

He is right about the Raiders, but he is not going to give up his 5 mill per year he is getting not to caoch the Ravens to coach the Raiders as Als Biatch. Al should give him 5 mil a year to run his PR department though. No one thinks Big Al looks good in front of a camera anymore.

That's quite a statement from Brian, considering his ultimate downfall in Baltimore was probably a failure to listen to players and coaches under him.

He talks a good game about communication, but his idea of communication sure seemed to be a one way street during his time here. He gave all appearances of a man who liked to hear himself talk. It was that way right from the start, going back to his episode in Tampa when he told the press that he had the podium and they were there to listen to him.

That works fine when you're winning the Super Bowl.

But follow that tendency right on through to the lean seasons, when Ravens players realized they had no voice with Brian. If the commander isn't listening to his lieutenants and to his troops, and he's leading them into losing battles, there is going to be a mutiny. You started to see certain players griping to the Media, especially Mike Preston.

So, in the T.O. situation, Billick is giving good advice on the importance of communication. But I wonder if Brian thinks he was practicing what he preaches, back at the end of his tenure in Baltimore?

Is he such a bad listener that he can't even listen to his own advice?

Or, did he truly learn from the situation in Baltimore, and now this is the voice of experience talking?

Good points. it is easy to say, not so easy to do.

The communication between Billick and the team was fine till Bowser Biscotti took over and cut the legs out from under coaches and management with his star f'ink and special treatment for his favorite players. He created a monster in Ray Lewis that tore the team apart...read Feinstein's book.
