Re: The 1814 British Empire Invasion of Baltimore, Maryland: The Battle of Fort McHenry
Not off the top of my head, that useless information ( that's what my wife calls it) I have just memorized over the years. I will get back to you. Honestly, I don't read many books. I have been a quasi historian of Baltimore my entire life. I have a particular hobby that intertwines history and collecting......I dig privies, also known as outhouses. I have been doing it for about 50 years. I have dug with some ol'timers that taught me a lot about Baltimore.
I have collected antiques in general my entire life......my family is about as Baltimore as you can get. My great grandmother ran a boarding/brothel house in Baltimore. Old Bay runs through my veins. As far as the "ghost signs" those are one of my favorite things about Baltimore. One of my favorite movies of all times is "Far and Away" with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Much of it was filmed in Baltimore. I lived around the corner of the Hollins Market. In the movie Nicole Kidman has ran away after stealing her parents silver spoons. She is going to sell them here in America to raise money to live off of. There's a scene of her in the streets when someone knocks in to her and the spoons spill all over the street........passerby's all swoop in and take the spoons. That entire scene and others were filmed at the Hollins market.
BTW, the area around the market is one of the areas I dig in.......some of the houses are early-mid 1800's.
There's a really good book on the Baltimore fire. I did read that one......I will get back to you.Always buying Antique and vintage items......
