Re: OT: International Summer Soccer Thread
Nice first half. It hasn’t become a hack fest yet, for which I’m appreciative. If it stays like this tho, gotta figure Argentina and Messi will unlock that one moment of brilliance. If Columbia can get a goal early in the half, this game will get very interesting.

Re: OT: International Summer Soccer Thread
Congrats to Spain and Argentina! I watched the Euro final but turned into a pumpkin after the Copa America final was delayed over an hour.
The tournament seems to have been poor on a number of fronts: security, field conditions, and officiating. But I still enjoyed watching much of it.
Any word on the specifics of Messi's injury?

Re: OT: International Summer Soccer Thread
2 fundamental organizational issues.
The dimensions of the field were smaller than normal in international matches, they need 2 more meters ( 2 yards ) on each side (width).
The grass, the fields were not prepared for soccer, irregular, there were no good training fields either.
and many complaints about Shakira's halftime show, there are many minutes where the players get cold and it is not suitable for this physical preparation.

Re: OT: International Summer Soccer Thread
Congratulations on your win!
And thanks for these insights.
Would a 4 meter width increase have made a difference for one team over another?
Maybe on some of the long balls crossing downfield that went out of bounds before the forward could just get to it, yes?
But did the shortness take away one sides better advantage?at one point of my life I was exactly Pi years old

Re: OT: International Summer Soccer Thread
Narrow fields will always help the less talented and/or away team, usually the one doing most of the defending, as there is simply less ground to cover and you can more easily squeeze and reduce the passing lanes.
A Barcelona will always look at maximizing the Camp Nou's width and length, a bottom of the table team will shorten their home field to give themselves a better chance. A few meters in width can make a lot of difference, more so than length. It ain't pretty, but it's us.
AND I'M HERE FOR IT ALL, BABY.
We were getting healthier...

Re: OT: International Summer Soccer Thread
The Athletic is reporting that Mauricio Pochettino is the top candidate for the USMNT job.

I could definitely get behind that."Chin up, chest out."

Re: OT: International Summer Soccer Thread
Looks like it actually is going to be Pochettino for USMNT.

If nothing else, the US is going to be a pain in the ass for other teams to play, and much more fun for us to watch. Looking forward to seeing how he does."Chin up, chest out."
