Grading out the Depth Chart (Defense)

DL: A+.. our sack daddy lives here on the DL. To have a pass rushing DT is a huge boost and he was also our TFL daddy. The group from last season that ranked among the leagues best in stopping the run remains in tact. Gotta give them their respect here with an A+.

LB: A-.. led by Roquan Smith leading the team in tackles. The big story here is Trenton Simpson who I believe will prove to be an upgrade over Queen. We lost Clowney.. but Van Noy returns coming off one of his best seasons. The big pressure is on the African "O" brothers that need to prove they have a long term place on this team by playing a full season productively.

CB: A-.. Yeah I said it! This is a good looking group. Hump is Hump and Stephens continues to improve significantly. All eyes are on Wiggins who has the potential of becoming our best corner one day. A guy that you may just be able to leave on an island against opposing #1 corners in a couple years. I like that kid TJ Tampa too (no pun intended). That name alone just sounds like a solid corner.

Safeties: A+.. We have the best safety in the league in Kyle Hamilton and it's not even debateable. Marcus Williams when healthy can still ball which is where my only concern is if he goes down, there is not much there now with Geno Stone gone. Good thing is, Brandon Stephens is capable of filling in at safety if need be.

Overall, it all depends on how Orr utilizes this group that still has the potential of being the best in the league again.

I think our tight end group is much stronger than our defensive linemen. You seem to put huge emphasis on the best player in the group, and even then it’s hard not to put Chris jones number 1. Yes mads had a great season last year but it would be hard for me to put him above dexter Lawrence and Quinnen Williams.

PQ had a great year last year. We'll be lucky if Simpson matches it his first year starting.

I wouldn't give any group an A+. That grade would be for an elite group that is considered the best in the league.

LB I assume this includes ILB and OLB/Edge. A lot of questions here. Will Simpson slide in and be great or even good for the season? How will the O's perform? Will Isaac become a rotational piece early? Only positive is Roq. B with potential to move up

CB I like Stephens and Humphrey(when healthy). I agree and think that Wiggins and TJ could be very good early. I like re-signing Maulet so he can cover slot. We have a lot of depth here. B+ to A- which depends on where Humphrey plays, I'd like Wiggins on the outside instead of Humphrey

S We have the best starting duo when healthy but Williams has struggled to stay healthy. We also have played 3 S recently. We have a lack of depth currently. B now but if one of our UDFAs steps up and we add another S later I would raise the grade to A- or A based on who we bring in.

Damn this was generous. D-line has one pass rusher and I think he got more coverage sacks than pure quick wins. LB next to Roquan is an unknown and both OLBs, regardless of who they are, are not considered elite.

CB I'll give you, assuming Humphrey is back to pre-2023 Humphrey. Same thing for safety if Williams can stay healthy.

You watched Simpson against arguably one of the worst offenses in the league, in a torrential downpour, and against a QB that won't start another NFL game in his career.

Lets pump the brakes on Simpson until he strings a couple Sundays together against non JV offenses.

The defense will be good. Will really all come down to Ojabo and Oweh. The front will be good the secondary will be one of the best. If the pass rush shows up, they’ll be a top defense. If not, still high middle.

One game by Simpson doesn't mean he will be good/great in the future. If you include the OLB/Edge then you can't realistically give the LB group an A-.
