What I would do
If you are sure that Williams or Maye is the guy, then take him, if not trade down a few times but make certain you get Harrison Jr and more picks. Shore up the O-line and determine if Fields is the guy for certain in 24.

Re: News/rumors 2024
Atlanta
Hires Harbaugh, trades for Fields (start with a third), he's got his mobile QB for two years under rookie deal, and assuming they were just mismanaged and can be ressurected he has his franchise RB, franchise TE and his first round pick. Doesn't have to give up draft capital.
He's ready to roll immediately in an incredibly weak Division.
That's who.

Re: News/rumors 2024
I'd say they're both as hyped as Young and Stroud were last year (combine pending.) Stroud turned out to be THE GUY, while Young turned out to be Ryan Leaf 2.0 without the emotional breakdowns.
You've got to take a shot. And then another shot. And keep shooting until you find THE GUY.
Some people thought Baker was THE GUY. Some people thought Rosen was. Some people thought Darnold was. But it turned out the Allen and Jackson were THE GUY, and the others were just guys. (Well, except Rosen. He wasn't even a guy, much less THE guy.)"Chin up, chest out."

Re: News/rumors 2024
That's what I'm getting at though...is Fields the worst of the 32 starters in the league right now? If he isn't, I'm not sure I want to get on the QB carousel and HOPE that one of these guys is better. It could wind up being neither of them. One might be Darnold and the other one Rosen. If Elberflus is telling me Fields ain't it, and I'm sticking with Elberflus, then so be it. But if I'm not even sure that Elberflus is the right guy, why the hell would I spend a top pick and give him another shot to screw that up?
If Chicago had an unquestioned good coach, then this would be a slam dunk easy decision. Cut bait with Fields. I Just haven't seen anything from the Bears under his watch that makes me believe that to be true.

Re: News/rumors 2024
Fields doesn't have to be the worst of 32. The question is, can you win a Super Bowl with him? You don't have to be the best QB in the league to win a SB. But realistically, very very few QBs have been in the bottom third of the league and won a SB. Apart from Dilfer, I can't think of another one off the top of my head. Having a hard time thinking of one who was in the bottom HALF of the league.
So let's say for argument he's the 21st best QB in the league. Maybe he's better than Murray, Geno Smith, Ridder, Howell, etc. But does that mean you ride with him? No. You have to try to improve that position.
Now, if you think he's actually a top-12 QB, and he just needs players and coaches around him, then by all means. You have the draft capital and cap space to build around him. I personally don't see it, and he definitely hasn't shown it, but maybe that's what the Bears think. Who knows?"Chin up, chest out."

Re: News/rumors 2024
Fair.
That's exactly what I'm saying - what do the Bears actually think? And does ownership trust the opinion of the coaches? And should coaches trust the FO to make the right choices? The whole thing seems to lack a clear vision so IMO, drafting a QB high doesn't solve any of it. Better to build out the team when you have the capital to do so and then figure out if it's the coaches or the existing QB that's the problem.
If it turns out to be the coaches, and you draft a QB high, that can set the franchise back by years. If it turns out to be the QB, then it's a much easier fix down the road, especially if the team is loaded and talented everywhere else.
I think in Chicago, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing so it's hard to get a read on WTF is wrong up there. It's convenient and easy to say Fields just ain't the guy...but I don't think it's that simple.

Re: News/rumors 2024
It's a tough question when you're dealing with a bad organization, because there is no right answer. Keep Fields and lose. Draft a good young QB, ruin him, and lose. Clean house but bring in the wrong coaches and FAs and miss in the draft... and lose.
So yeah, I agree with the question marks your raise about the Bears organization. I'm not sure anything they do is going to fix things. But trying to look at Fields, and JUST Fields, I personally don't see an upper-echelon, SB-potential QB. So if I'm them, I'm drafting a guy, and letting the Fields situation sort itself out."Chin up, chest out."
