Re: News/rumors 2024
It doesn't take this long for you to know if your QB is the guy these days...wins and losses isn't a purely QB stat and Chicago's problems go beyond him but Fields is 10-28 in his career, that's not a QB you pass up a potentially generational talent for. That's probably not a QB you pass up any kind of potential upgrade at the position for...
I dunno if Williams is going to live up to the hype...I feel like Lawrence was the last guy like this as far as people talking about him way before he could be drafted and he's kind of...I mean he's ok but not generational by any means. He's certainly not elevating the team around him. But you gotta take the shot if you are Chicago, him or Maye. Can't win in the league without a QB.back on twitter

Re: News/rumors 2024
I love that it's actually interesting this year. Last year it was Stroud or Young, Young or Stroud, but that was really the only drama.
At this moment, Chicago could keep the number 1 pick and we would have no idea what they might do -- which means the teams behind them have no idea what they are doing.
I would guess if they keep the #1, it's to take Williams. Otherwise you trade down to Washington or New England -- whichever one wants Williams more.
I don't know what they will do, but if *I* were them, I'd trade the #1 to Washington, let them take Williams, and then draft Maye. And then see if I'd could find a taker for Fields."Chin up, chest out."

Re: News/rumors 2024
But if those guys turn out to be no better than Fields, what did you gain? Neither of them are "generational" talents. How about you build out an actual DEFENSE in Chicago that can help the team hold leads or keep them in games? The Bears have done nothing but make a series of WTF moves for the past 2 years - biggest of which was trading Ro, right after trading Robert Quinn. They were actively weakening the defense while trying to augment the offense. Why not do both? It's as if they were playing a zero sum game with their roster construction.
What they need is an influx of talent across both the offense and defense at key positions not named QB. At least you know what you're working with in Fields.

Re: News/rumors 2024
Chicago doesn't have to pick up the fifth year option. He is still under contract for 2024. They could keep him, trade the #1 pick to move back and pick up some draft capital, still draft a QB while grabbing a playmaker, let the drafted QB learn for a year, and if Fields balls out, they'll get a high comp pick for him - or they could trade him midyear to a QB-starved team in the playoff hunt.

Re: News/rumors 2024
I don't think it's really fair to say neither is generational...Williams has been billed as that for a couple of years? Otherwise it's fair points...I just think, beyond the roster, etc., how many franchise QBs out there still had question marks going into year 4 and continued on to be "franchise QB"? Lamar and Mahomes were MVPs in Y2. Allen was good by end of Y2. Hurts in SB 3rd year...Burrow in SB 2nd year...Stroud is immediately good with a sub par roster...
Just feel at this point in a player's career, especially at QB, you know what you got. The Bears basically hit the lotto ending up with this pick...if it was the Ravens in this situation and they passed on Williams or Maye to keep Fields I would be pissed is how I'm looking at it too.back on twitter

Re: News/rumors 2024
This is what I would do too. Bears could end up controlling next two drafts by trading this year's 1st overall and could easily go for a QB if a later pick this year won't pan out. Things are though that Justin's words at the end of the season kind of translate as goodbye.

Re: News/rumors 2024
That's what I'm saying I guess - how do the Bears know if Fields is good enough to be the guy? They have made a series of poor choices on roster construction as well as poor coaching and game management decisions the past few years. At times Fields looks great and other tines he looks like Kyle Boller. How much of that is him and how much of it is poor coaching? I guess it comes down to whether you trust Elberflus to turn things around?
