2023 Maryland Football
They have an unusually easy schedule. Some like that, I certainly do not. It detracts from their final record and reduces their chances of receiving national attention. They still play in the Big Ten’s Eastern Division with annual meetings with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State. But they haven’t yet demonstrated they can beat any of those four - except under extenuating circumstances (e.g., at Penn State during the covid-shortened 2020 season and against the Spartans in 2022). As for the rest of their Big Ten schedule, they totally avoid the better programs (Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota). So the absolute best case scenario is an 8-4 season (5-4 inside the conference) but no national ranking.

Re: 2023 Maryland Football
FWIW opening win over Towson (my alma mater) is third straight game Terps have not surrendered a TD. It includes the bowl game victory over NC State - the only significant opponent (after Rutgers).

Nice win, looked like a good crowd too. Glad to see the student section filled up and rowdy. Cool of Coach Locksley to not run up the score against his alma mater.

Re: 2023 Maryland Football
I have a hunch the Terps will upset Penn State on Saturday. These things happen when you least expect them - like on a three game losing streak.

Re: 2023 Maryland Football
I have a hunch the Terps will upset Michigan on Saturday. (No wagering, of course.) Lost last year in Ann Arbor 34-27 because they fumbled opening kickoff. That was the difference. Michigan looking past the Terps for titanic matchup with Ohio State.

Re: 2023 Maryland Football
Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes cost the Terps a HUGE upset win. Losing 31-24 where 17 of Michigan’s 31 points were gifts from the Terps - 15 directly from QB Tagovailoa.

Nevertheless, it was a great, die-hard effort by the Terps. Making mistakes is simply who they are. Once you accept that fact, they impressed with their maximum effort in giving the Number 3 team in the nation a genuine, real contest for a FULL four quarters on national TV. Let’s hope the exposure draws recruiting interest from really good players and coaches in the near future.

Re: 2023 Maryland Football
The last time I enjoyed a football game so much in a losing effort was the Ravens-Patriots game from 2007 in Baltimore. In prime time, the undefeated Patriots came the closest to losing a regular season game. And YES it was Raven mistakes that cost them a huge upset win. Ravens went 5-11 and New England went 18-1 that year.

Looking forward to watching Maryland versus Auburn in the Music City Bowl. But it could be a daunting task for the 7-5 Terps. Auburn (6-6) lost to Georgia and Alabama by a combined ten points!
