Indeed. We have a handful of queer people in our immediate family circle. So happy they don't experience the same hate as prior generations. (Even on a football message board!).

Staycation is coming to an end :-( Glad I golfed yesterday, because I also hate the heat.

Heh
I don't hate summer but I don't like the heat. I tolerate it since I'm from Westminster, it's not as bad as Georgia, but the humidity down there is oppressive during the summer.
The only good thing is that when it turns to fall if you have to drive from Westminster to the inner harbor in the early mornings, you can literally see the Chesapeake bay breathing. The fog rolls up into Westminster early in the change to fall each morning it steadily retreats to the bay, climbing into the mountains less and less until it only reaches Owings mills then it's too cold to make fog anymore and you know that it's really fall and Thanksgiving is coming soon.
I miss that. I don't miss driving two hours per day, but I miss seeing the bay breathing.

I am saddened to see that a simple shout-out to Pride Month in the weekly "free talk" thread is considered too "political," causing it to get moved. Odd, considering that my thread supporting veterans on Memorial Day wasn't moved. Evidence we still have so far to go in this country.

Re: Free talk Friday - 06.02.23
You knew when you said it it was going to be moved. One of the biggest political arguments in the country right now is exposing children to porn under the guise of LGBT "inclusion". And no, it's not a majority of the LGB crowd doing it. I know way too many gay folks who think putting this stuff in school is terrible to even consider blaming them.
Then you compare soldiers dying to protect our freedoms to someone picking the wiener or the taco. Big deal. I do that every time we eat at the local German/Mexican joint, El Loco Frankfurter. It's run by an Armenian guy and his half-Filipino wife. She's actually full-blooded Filipino, but she lost her legs in an illicit dodgeball championship. The point is, you're looking for shit to be offended by. Congrats, now go virtue signal to someone who gives a fuck."A moron, a rapist, and a Pittsburgh Steeler walk into a bar. He sits down and says, “Hi I’m Ben may I have a drink please?”

Precisely. Being a veteran, someone who was willing to volunteer to fight for and serve our country is a virtue. Having a sexual orientation is not a virtue. Veterans only get one day a year as well. Two days if you count the dead ones who died fighting for our right to virtue signal.

Re: Free talk Friday - 06.02.23
It would be easier to support the folks here supporting pride if some of them were willing to stick their necks out and take a nuanced position on the current state of the LGBT etc. etc. community.
I can't think of anything more anti gay, anti masculine woman, anti feminine man that simultaneously supporting the notion of gay pride and that we also should expidite and herd feminine boys and masculine girls into a surgical/hormonal meatgrinder with ideas like compelled gender affirming care. Seems the opposite of supporting gays and more like forcing capitulation into CIS stereotypes via radical pro-mutilation therapy.
Someone like J.K. Rowlings, for instance, has such a split position and has exposed herself to public pillory by the intolearnt militant trans community that has hijacked what was at one point a good and needed movement.
This seems like Darb said, virtue signalling, going with the herd, partisan politics absent that.
I do have 2 trans nephews btw. I support them. The one waited until he was 21 to do the surgical/hormonal interventions. As his uncle I worry a lot about him and wonder if he would have been happier as a masculine gay woman with his body in tact. That rubicon has been crossed however so what other choice do you have than to love and support him as I did when he was my niece.
I'll say it again. Seems to me like that movement has been hijacked.
