“The NFL doesn’t have to do anything about this. Go ask the NFLPA what THEY are doing about this !!! Why is absolutely everything the responsibility of the NFL itself while neither the players, their agents, or the NFLPA have any responsibility whatsoever, for anything? Caveat Emptor should apply for Jackson here, if he gets a bad contract because HE chose a non-certified agent, then Jackson should own it.”
I smell a law student who thinks they know something (eyeroll). First, caveat emptor literally translates to “buyer beware” and the buyer in the case of an NFL contract would be the team, not the player. The player is quite literally selling his services as a football player to the team in exchange for money. To the extent that this particular type of liability would fall with Jackson, it would be called caveat venditor (“let the seller beware”). In any event, the player does, indeed, make certain representations to the teams and thus bear responsibility for themselves under the standard player contract, which is also included in the CBA. The standard contract literally contains a provision requiring the player to undergo a physical and to maintain himself in, and I quote, “excellent physical condition.” If the player breaches that contractual duty, the team has the right to terminate the contract.
I believe the principle that you are actually trying to express is freedom of contract, that is, that when you have two competent parties and all other elements of a contract are met, parties are free to enter into bad contracts. The problem is, there is no contract yet. Lamar Jackson is free to enter into a contract with terms less favorable than those that he might have gotten with the help of an agent. Ultimately, though, this is not the issue being discussed; rather, the issue here is that the collective bargaining agreement, vis a vis federal law (see 29 U.S.C. § 159(a)), requires that players either be represented by an NFLPA certified agent or represent themselves. Under the CBA it is THE LEAGUE who has the responsibility of enforcing the agent rule. See NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, Article 48, Section 2:
“Enforcement: Under procedures to be established by agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA, the Commissioner shall disapprove any NFL Player Contract(s) between a player and a Club unless such player: (a) is represented in the negotiations with respect to such NFL Player Contract(s) by an agent or representative duly certified by the NFLPA in accordance with the NFLPA agent regulation system and authorized to represent him; or (b) acts on his own behalf in negotiating such NFL Player Contract(s).”
With respect to what the NFLPA is “doing about” this…they negotiated the CBA. If you had actually gone and read the CBA provisions cited, you’d know that the CBA expressly forbids teams from “engaging in individual contract negotiations with any agent who is not listed by the NFLPA as being duly certified by the NFLPA in accordance with its role as exclusive bargaining agent for NFL players.” In other words, the NFLPA’s responsibility is to come up with a certification mechanism for agents (which it has) and to provide teams with a list of certified agents (which it does, on a monthly basis as required by the CBA). The teams bear the responsibility of making sure any agent that calls them to negotiate on behalf of a player is actually a certified agent, which they can do by checking the list that the NFLPA has provided. If they fail to do so, then the league is contractually obligated to disapprove the contract pursuant to the above-quoted provision.
The very least you could do before spouting off is to actually go read the relevant CBA provisions. They are available online for free.

Re: Who is possibly in on Lamar now?
couldn't agree more. The Ravens clearly want to keep Jackson. My post was in response to the report that Jackson wanted out of Baltimore.......I disagree. Everything points to Jackson at the very least is open to it. Jackson would have told the Ravens early on in the process that he wanted out. IMO that hasn't happened, the Ravens first used the NE tag on Lamar, then they have been relatively quiet on the free agent market. Renegotiating contracts......clearing cap space.
The entire exercise was for Jackson to find out what his market value is, no one is biting. The Ravens have made it obviously clear they are willing to match most offers. Unless a team comes in and blows the doors off with an offer the Ravens are just going to simply match it............... Everyone knows it.
The notion that it's "collusion" is silly. NO.........the Ravens want to keep Jackson. They have little choice, this is the Ravens play. Jackson is the one who continually misplays his hand and his career. Just when you think Lamar couldn't make any more mistakes he drops some horrible video teaser. I have seen high school A/V productions that were better, it's to the point of being embarrassing. No one in the media wants to say it but Lamar needs to be saved from himself. I understand, he's a proud young man. There's ego in play here........I get it.
Jackson has mishandled this thing and has lost millions of dollars, right now he's bleeding money. He is now the poster child for every agent in the business. A case study on what NOT to do. Some of you think that he's some kind of new age Maverick.......leading a new generation. Wrong!........no one has done it like this because it's simply the wrong way to do it, there's a reason no one has done it this way.
If there was a team truly interested in Jackson that team would have been all over him the minute he became available. You're delusional if you think.........they are just waiting till the draft is over. By then teams want to have their rosters rounded out. Their cap space spoken for. The Ravens will go in to next season with the notion Lamar will play on the tag.
I don't know who, but someone has to get through to Lamar. BTW.......this isn't the Ravens fault.....not by a mile.

Re: Who is possibly in on Lamar now?
The Ravens are clearly showing they want Lamar here. But does Lamar feel the same? If Lamar wants to stay, the real problem in all of this is that we've been on the sidelines of free agency due to him being in limbo. Lamar has to know that his reluctance to compromise is causing his team to fall behind in the AFC.
So either ..
A. He is so wrapped up in the money, he doesn't care. Or...
B. He knows exactly what he's doing and it's his way of sticking it to the Ravens.

Re: Who is possibly in on Lamar now?
He wants his money, like many players do. This isn't the first time the Ravens have had to tag a player. Hell, some players have been tagged twice. This is only a bigger issue because it's a bigger contract and a bigger tag amount.
This is literally a yearly thing in the NFL, I'm not sure why people want to treat it as some personal thing or as if the player has some personal dislike of the Ravens. We didn't do it when Suggs got tagged (twice if I recall), we didn't do it when McAlister got tagged twice, etc. The dollar amount in question doesn't determine whether or not the player dislikes the team

Re: Who is possibly in on Lamar now?
Option C
The NFLPA has convinced Lamar that the reason he won’t get the deal he wants is the Ravens
It doesn’t have to be true for Lamar to buy into it. He already is buying what they were selling to his detriment
I doubt the NFLPA is saying…. Our bad…. No they are going to throw the Ravens under the bus and say it’s how the Ravens dealt with this that has led to this outcome.“A linebacker's job is to knock out running backs, to knock out receivers, to chase the football,”
