2023 O's
Last year the O's surprised everyone. Will they step ahead or fall back this year.

Re: 2023 O's
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...Astros_seasons
That’s a good question. The link above tells what happened in Houston while Elias was there (2012-2018). In the fourth year (2015) of the rebuild, the Astros had their first winning season. They won 86 games and beat the Yankees in the wildcard game. The following year, they won 84 games and missed the playoffs. But in 2017 they won 101 games, beat the Yankees in the ALCS, and won the World Series.
Elias finished his fourth year with the Orioles in 2022 winning 83 games, their first winning season of the rebuild. So far there’s a definite similarity to what happened in Houston.
The pattern suggests for 2023 either an 85-win season and playoffs appearance or 81 wins and no playoffs. The main thing to keep in mind is that the rebuild is not over.

Thank god the Orioles will hopefully be a good distraction from lamar drama during the Spring and Summer.

Re: 2023 O's
VERY disappointed in another series loss to Yankees. The ONLY way to discourage Yankee fans from returning to Camden Yards is to win every series at home. It takes another full year to get rid of them when you don’t. Our pitching has got to be better against AL East opponents.
Early in that third game Austin Hays came very close to hitting a three-run homer off their starter. If he does, we win 6-5 and take the series.
Can’t be a legitimate WS contender until you ‘turn the tables’ on NYY. Inevitably, you’re going to face them in the postseason again.

Re: 2023 O's
In the last seven games, the starting pitching has done a MAJOR turnaround - just in time for a long stretch against playoff-caliber teams (4-3 so far but should have been 6-1). Reminds me of the games in Houston last season.
If this keeps up, there’ll be multiple Orioles in the all-star game (of course none will start). The only complaint I have is way too many runners stranded at third with less than two outs.
Don’t want to see this team peak too soon.

Re: 2023 O's
If there was ever a time for the 31-16 Orioles to make a statement it is certainly now against the Yankees. Thus far, the only series we have lost at home is to them. We need to “turn the tables” on them in New York. We need to win the season series 7-6 which would require going 6-4 against them for the remainder of the season (serves as a tiebreaker for home field advantage). We may make it to the playoffs but we won’t make it to the World Series unless we take them down. A meeting in the playoffs is inevitable.
We need to send a message to both the Yankees AND to their fans in Camden Yards.

Re: 2023 O's
This weekend is a character test for the 2023 edition of the Orioles.
I would be VERY disappointed in another home series loss to the Yankees. The ONLY way to discourage an over abundance of Yankee fans from returning to Camden Yards is to win every series at home. It takes another full year to get rid of them when you don’t. Can’t be a legitimate WS contender until you ‘turn the tables’ on NYY. Inevitably, you’re going to face them in the postseason again.
We need to take them down THIS weekend. We need to win the season series 7-6 which requires winning two of three (serves as a tiebreaker for home field advantage).
We need to send a message to both the Yankees AND to their fans in Camden Yards.
