If she caucuses with Dems it won't matter. If she is truly going to be independent then this is great news. We'll see how she votes. Wish Manchin would do the same.

Maybe she got tired of being harassed by the left when she didn't cooperate fully, who knows the real reason. Maybe she just witnessed the corruption going on in the just finished Arizona midterms. This gives Manchin a little more power than he had yesterday. He's probably pissed at Schumer and the Dems for breaking their energy promise to him so he would sign the bogus inflation act. Unless I'm mistaken, that still gives them the majority with Kamala's deciding vote if they have no one else leaving the plantation.

She's up for reelection in two years. Either way, generally it won't matter. Unless she actually becomes an actual real independent, that is. She'll float the indie flag for the next two years and watch which way the political winds blow. Yeah, sure would be nice if Manchin would actually switch, but even if he did, would he end up like another Romney?

Yup. Sinema isn’t doing this because she is a true principled independent. Her vote is up for sale. She is taking huge money from the pharmaceutical and private equity industries to do their bidding.

Sinema would have likely lost the Democratic primary in 2024 to Rueben Gallego (Democratic Congressman from AZ). By running as an Independent, she is assuring that Republicans will win that Senate seat in 2024 if the Democrats run Gallego in that race. She will split the Democratic/Independent vote and the Republican will win. She is trying to force the Democrats to not run anyone in that race and line up behind her.

Republicans will likely now take that seat anyway because Progressives will not show up to vote for Sinema now that she has shown her true colors. Her only hope is to draw more moderate Republicans to vote for her than the Progressive votes that she will lose.

Keep in mind that Sinema votes with Biden and the Democrats 93% of the time. She wants to keep her current Senate committee assignments, which she could only do by caucusing with the Democrats. She has clearly said that she will not caucus with the Republicans. So, for all practical purposes this move won’t change anything over the next two years.
