What’s important here is that he doesn’t do that in front of his players. Because his players cannot shirk their own individual responsibilities for the loss.)
I agree. This is what happens when a team is always used to losing. It's a mental thing and they have to take respect. I still think the refs are against Maryland. Knowing that is what should be more motivation for this terps team to stay focused and overcome that.

Cmon, the refs didn't lose Maryland the game, the two totally blown coverages cost Maryland the game
First the TE #87 catches a TD pass in the middle of the endzone with no MD player within 5 yards.

Then on the next drive the same TE waltzes off the line turns around on the left hash and catches a pass with no MD defender within 15 yards, He runs 50 yards to the MD 15. This one was really amazing because for some reason their were 3 defenders surrounding a single receiver on the right sideline. Bad coaching, bad execution, whatever MD gave away the game, the refs didn't need to steal it.

How tf are you supposed to block a guy who’s past you before the ball is snapped?

Despite the mistakes in pass coverage, I thought the defense played well overall. But I didn’t understand not rushing the Purdue QB who picked them apart.

The thing that really ticked me off was the goal line stand when their QB threw away a 3rd down pass attempt when the coverage was perfect. Purdue had settled for a field goal when a late flag (seemed late to me) gave them a first down near the goal line. Of course they got the TD. That was four more points in a game decided by two points.

    Re: OT: 2022 Maryland Football

Maryland at Wisconsin was the very first game this season that the Terps were never in it. They lost 23-10 (first loss by more than a possession). Had two weeks to prepare, then failed to ‘show up’ on offense or defense. Three years ago they came out of a bye and lost to Penn State at home 59-0. That’s the bad news.

Now here’s the good news. At 6-3, 3-3, this football team is (IMHO) on the verge of pulling their second road upset of No. 14 Penn State (7-2, 4-2) in just three seasons. Here are my reasons:

    1. QB Taulia Tagovailoa is in his third season and his offense recently completed a 10-game streak of scoring 27+ points each game.
    2. Terps defense has finally shown life this season. They’re not breaking records but they’re complementing the offense. They surrendered a high of 34 points once - against No. 4 Michigan on the road. An enormous improvement.
    3. Terps are avoiding critical injuries this season. Losing WR Dontay Demus last season robbed Tagovailoa of his No. 1 receiver when they started 4-0.

What concerns me the most is the officiating in the Big Ten. They practically gave Purdue a 31-29 victory against the Terps. That could happen again in Happy Valley this Saturday. Let’s hope the Terps can keep their own mistakes to an absolute minimum. Forcing PSU turnovers would help tremendously.

Terps are a 12-point underdog. But after the disappointing effort at Wisconsin, the Terps are ‘flying under the radar’.

    Prediction:

    UMD 30
    PSU 27

I don't think UMD will take the proverbial next step until the B1G is realigned after USC and UCLA and whoever else join.

Totally agree. Would help if it were a home game.

The one Terps game I pray for a win is vs. OSU. Obnoxious, entitled front-running hick fans. Copyrighting "The" is the apex of pomposity

One of the best Terps games I've ever watched was a few years ago when they went toe to toe with them all game. Back and forth for 3 hours. Down 7 with seconds left, Maryland drove back, scored a TD and said WTF, we proved ourselves, let's go for 2. Didn't make it, but I was never prouder of that squad.

Terps will get smoked. Here's my reasons

1)Since the Terps joined the Big Ten Conference in 2014, they have gone 0-28 against Big Ten teams ranked in The Associated Press Top 25.
2)The Terps have a 2-41-1 record against the Nittany Lions over the last 102 seasons.
3)They always come up small in big games.

    I hope I'm wrong.

Focus on their three losses. Losing to No. 4 Michigan on the road by seven when the opening kickoff was fumbled (bounced off his face mask) leading to a gift-wrapped TD which was the difference in the game. Losing to Purdue at home by two when the same TE was left wide open (busted coverage) twice for a TD and 50 yds catch and run. Losing to Wisconsin on the road 23-10 when the whole team showed up after a bye with zero intensity (it’s a wonder it wasn’t 53-10). What if they were up for that game, then what happens?

The Terps are not a spectacular team BUT they have clearly (at least to me) demonstrated their capacity to pull a major upset this season. A win over OSU next weekend seems absurd but it’s not inconceivable. Cut out the critical mistakes and see what happens.

Fridge is missed. The assistant we should have hired is on the Penn State sideline. Locksley is a ridiculously bad coach. Fortunately his recruiting gets him decent players, so he wins against mediocre teams by virtue of the talent he has. However, his teams underperform and are undisciplined and unprepared continually against decent competition. A comment above said "cut out the critical mistakes and see what happens"...........................That's the whole problem ! They make the same critical mistakes over and over and over for the last 5 years. We'll never "see what happens" under Locksley because it will never get cleaned up.
