Sure missing out on a few quality FA's for two years isnt cool but the alternative could be sooooo much worse. I'd bet the Ravens couldnt be happier about the situation and they get to "lowball" him and tell fans they keep making him offers but he's not interested to spare our purple hearts the cruel truth. Ravens executives have a combined century's worth of experience dealing in the NFL and they can see further than Lamar can, he really should have had a professional negotiate for him.
Yeah except that it’s not true at all.

    Deshaun Watson year’s 2&3 cap hits? $55m.
    Josh Allen- $40&42m
Dak Prescott - $20m and $50m but only by adding void years and doing a restructure to clear 3/4’s of $22m($16.5m) off the 22 cap.
    Mahomes - $47&$44m

So, as we can see from the Dak contract, all it changes is that it makes the cap hits inflexible and removes his contract from being a vehicle to borrow against future cap space:

It looked to me like he was talking about the cap hits as designed in the original signing more so than for future restructure purposes, unless I misunderstood.

But even if…. All that is doing is making the future harder, so….

The flip side is, after two tags if he is washed like everyone claims he will be, we can just move on with no I’ll effect so the future is far better in the double tag situation.

The difference is they will convert base salary to bonus if they need space. These contracts are designed to be easy to renegotiate. The Mahomes contract which has been analyzed to death. That's always mentioned. Eventually it will catch up with them in year 5 or 6 but they can convert the base to bonus until then. You can't do that with a franchise tag. It's just the number that hits the cap. It's still manageable but it's not as easy as for example the Mark Andrews contract. The franchise tag is always an option but at these high amounts it's not ideal

If Lamar was thinking he would want out after Bmore this year he should have forced a trade this off season. No reason to risk injury. I am perplexed he is playing this year without a new contract.

The other issue is the future cap size. Right now we are at 2019 numbers. In three years we could be above 300 million. The maximum contract right now is 50 million but I expect it to be higher for several players then.

Five years ago we thought 20 million for any wr was crazy and 40 million for a qb was as well. How do those numbers look now? Had he signed last year, he would be in the 35-40/ per year slot. Today it’s 40/45 or slightly more. But in two years it well could be 55-60/ year. In less than five years his number could honestly go up 20-25 million per year. So I see his no rush to sign. It is a business for him as well. With this years contract, he will be mostly set for life. With two more franchise tag years it will be another few tens of millions in the bank. Then the big money comes. Think about that, I have.
Or "C" he could have a career ending injury.......or an injury that keeps him out for a long period of time. If he doesn't sign but plays.......it's like sticking a $250-300 mil casino chip in a slot machine. I disagree with most here. I think he plays and wants out of Baltimore. It's a calculated risk that most people disagree with. Something about a "bird in the hand".......How much more then the $250-300 mil will he get? Another 5 a year? SO he wants to gamble the $250-300 for 50 mil? After taxes what's his take? .........30? So his net take is 30mil? That's worth gambling? IMO he wants out....

I have thought that Lamar doesn’t want to play in the Ravens offensive system anymore for awhile. He has gotten hit a lot more over the past two seasons than he did in college. Lamar is a bit different than a lot of other athletes. He knows he is under contract for the 2022 season, which is why I think he shows up for OTAs tomorrow.

It almost seems like Lamar would think that it would be impolite to try to force a trade while he was under contract. I think he would think that he would be letting his teammates down by doing something as selfish as that would appear. Lamar has carefully crafted his public image. He is highly regarded for his character around the league. I think he plays out this season and then quietly requests a trade to a team in Florida.

The Ravens will franchise tag him after this season so they can trade him, but the only way I think Lamar goes public with a trade demand is if the Ravens try to force him to play for them in 2023 under the franchise tag. I don’t think that will happen, and that Lamar will be traded before the 2023 draft.

Re: Will Lamar show up to OTA’s this week?

I'm likely Lamar's biggest fan on this forum.

But, Lamar not having a contract already and entering this camp and this season without a long term contract is another instance in Lamar's career where not having an agent is hurting him (draft time being the 1st)...but this time it also hurts the team but much lesser so then the risk he's taking.

Everyone knows that Lamar should have signed and should sign a contract as soon as possible because its the smart thing to do.

With that comment out of the way, I would be shocked if Lamar isn't at OTAs manana....but we'll find out soon enough.

So maybe he should learn to read a defense and get the ball out on time, a lot of tape around showing Lamar holding the ball and missing the correct read that would have allowed him to get the ball out and not take the sack

Lamar seems like a straight up dude. Not the type that would lie over something this big and mislead DeCosta, Harbaugh and the team. Everyone in the organization believes that Lamar wants to be a Raven. All he’s ever said is that he wants to be Raven. And Eric, John, Stevie B and Ozzie
all seem like smart dudes that know people. I think they would know if Lamar wanted out and
would be prepared if they even thought there was a slightest chance he wouldn’t resign. For
example we know Sam Howell was high on their draft board, yet they passed on him in the 3rd and 4th rounds. A smart team that is worried about the QB long term doesn’t pass on QB in that situation.
