We have tested 2528 players and 4549 staff since training camps began (July 25-August 1) and have had more than 65 positive cases

Of these 32 were among vaccinated individuals

    Let's do some math

2428 + 4549 = 7077 close to the 7190 from above, so that likely means the 7190 is players and staff
(65/7077)*100 = 0.92% positive rate - this is really similar to the Aug1-21 data above
We don't have the breakdowns to do vaxed/unvaxed

We do KNOW that unvaxed are tested MUCH more frequently and this will lead to a higher rate (how much higher No One can tell you) positive (because you can miss asymptomatic positives in the vaxed).

If anyone knows anyone in the NFLPA who might be able to get the data for me please contact me. The data is key.
I think confusion is coming in because there is not real clarity in the numbers. It seems to be the about 2500 players tested are individuals, which make sense divide that number by 32 and you get about 80 per team. There doesn’t seem to be any numbers on actual TESTS taken. So getting a clear breakdown is impossible from the info shared

Agreed, the information in the public domain this year isn't nearly good enough for analysis.

He already was. Based on the literature, that bodes well for him not being on it again (he should have natural immunity now). But he apparently had it in November 2020, so who knows...

#Jets WR Jamison Crowder tested positive for COVID-19, sources tell @RapSheet and me.

It’s believed this is an isolated case. But Crowder is going on the COVID list and his status is now up in the air for the Week 1 opener against the #Panthers.

Aug 1 to Aug 21 (cut off date was right before Mike Vrabel positive was announced with the TN cluster)
7190 tested individuals, 0.95% incidence rate 0.0095 x 7190 = 68.305 – this seems right in line with what they said. OK!

    0.022 x 200 = 4.4, 0.022 x 250 = 5.5 If NFL is being conservative and rounding up to 200 letÂ’s say 5 players unvaxed positive.

This leaves either 63 or 62 vaxed positive

    7190 - 200 = 6990, 6990 x 0.003 = 20.97

    5 + 20.97 = 25.97 this does not = 68

    What is going on here?
Don't have time to break this down completely, but here is my initial assessment:

First, you are conflating two different sets of data: There were 68 positive test results across the entire population of both players and team personnel, not just the players alone. The second set of data (percentage of vaxed vs. un-vaxed players testing positive) cannot be derived from the 1st without more information.

Second, there were 68 positive TESTS out of 7K tests given, NOT 68 individuals testing positive. For every individual (again, players OR non-player) who tests positive on the initial test, TWO other mandatory tests are given, and only 2 total out of 3 need to show up positive for the individual go into the Covid protocol. So again, you cannot derive the total number of players OR the total number of total individuals testing positive from this data.

You really need to read this:

Disclaimer - none of this is definitive, it is rough math, but matches up with the information the NFL has distributed.

    1. Great additional double check with the number of players per team and 32 teams, nice work
    2. I agree, we can't tell anything with the data we have.

Maybe we could roughly (ROUGHLY) estimate the following (all from the dates at the time)
    Unvaxed players 2.2% positive
    Vaxed players 0.3% positive
    200 players unvaxed so 200x0.022 = 4.4
    2500-200 is 2200 unvaxed so 2200x0.003 = 6.6

Let's say that is 11 players positive

Let's roughly estimate 4600 staff that are tested, that means 57 staff, all vaxed (99.x% - very rare exceptions) but that is about 1.2% positivity rate in the vaxed staff, which is a lot higher than the players.
