This is the 2021 thread to track covid reserve list and other covid incidents.

I'm striving for completeness but I'm sure I'll miss something.

Like last year - this is strictly for data - please use the off topic forum for discussion about masks, gene therapy, right /wrong, science, studies and opinions and other related material there. I think last year went well until I ran out of energy and was sad to see how many players got covid.

I am using a spreadsheet this year so I hope I don't Peter out half way through.

Getting ready to post the first report and it's big, not sure if the spreadsheet will translate.

First, I found this transcript published on August 25, 2020 on NFL.com - last year- briefing by NFL CMO

"Obviously, that situation broadened on Sunday, to involve a total of 77 individuals, 44 players and 33 staff members. Again, those were spread across 11 different clubs" [Tests administered 2020-08-22]

They said they were bad results (false positives) in a rambling effort that didn't make sense (blamed the lab but implied numerous reasons) if you want to read it.

“The NFL has reached a vaccination rate of nearly 93 percent among its players and above 99 percent among staff members, according to NFL Chief Medical Officer Allen Sills, who spoke Thursday on a media teleconference after clubs had been collectively briefed on the league's latest findings on COVID-19.
According to Sills, there were 68 positive results among 7,190 tests for the virus between Aug. 1 to Aug. 21, for a positivity rate of 0.95 percent. Vaccinated players tested positive at a rate of 0.3 percent, while unvaccinated players tested positive at a rate seven times higher (2.2 percent), Sills added.

NFL general counsel Larry Ferazani said the league has proposed to the NFL Players Association that vaccinated players be tested once a week rather than biweekly, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The union's preference is for daily testing. Ferazani added that the NFL has been pushing for mandatory vaccinations for players. About 200 players leaguewide remain unvaccinated.”

That seems like some bad news for unvaxed, but Lets check the numbers

Aug 1 to Aug 21 (cut off date was right before Mike Vrabel positive was announced with the TN cluster)
7190 tested individuals, 0.95% incidence rate 0.0095 x 7190 = 68.305 – this seems right in line with what they said. OK!

0.022 x 200 = 4.4, 0.022 x 250 = 5.5 If NFL is being conservative and rounding up to 200 let’s say 5 players unvaxed positive.

This leaves either 63 or 62 vaxed positive

7190 - 200 = 6990, 6990 x 0.003 = 20.97

5 + 20.97 = 25.97 this does not = 68

What is going on here?

I really NEED to get a hold of the transcript from this conference call. The numbers released via NFL.com and Tom Pellisaro (where most of my numbers in my excel sheet are from) are just not right. I need to look at them to make sure someone isn't slipping up with improper terminology (or to see if they are doing in on purpose).

I am not taking a stance on if the NFL should Vax or not vax. I'm staying neutral. What I want is the data to see if their protocols are working.

Anything else will have to go to a different forum. I just want to state this is just NFL covid testing info, with MINOR amounts of policy. Let's keep all discussion of policy to the other forum, not this thread.

If anyone can get access to the transcript of the 2021-08-26 media conference call with CMO Dr. Sills, please please please contact me. I want to see exactly what was said and not just from second hand live tweets.
