Re: Handicapping the 53-man roster: August 1 edition
Man there are a couple of things I’d like to do with that 53rd roster spot besides a QB3. If you want to be extra deep there because of COVID I get it, but man losing Mason, Boykin, Ar’Darius Washington, Dorsey, Marshall, Bredeson, Colon Castillo; all these guys I’m cringing cutting.

Are there still a bunch of COVID rules and stuff this year? COVID protection, expanded PS, vets on PS, etc? That flexibility definitely helps me make decisions

It's really not that big of a deal to keep 3. The PS rules are the same as last year, meaning you have tons of flexibility. Find a vested vet that you want to keep, cut him so he doesn't have to go through waivers, and then do the 2 callup thing before the inevitable injury opens up a spot. We did it with Jordan Richards last year. It's really not hard to keep 3 with these new rules.

Re: Handicapping the 53-man roster: August 1 edition
Is Hill really necessary? I think he could survive the PS and if not I will not lose sleep. I’d rather they kick Mason’s tires as a goal line specialist or team personality setter or something. If it comes down to it and we lose a depth guy like Washington or Ferg before he becomes a late blossoming eventual third round future comp pick who gives us one hell of a season.

Re: Handicapping the 53-man roster: August 1 edition
Hill has become our gunner on special teams. That’s kept him active until now. Hard choices will need to be made and good players may be picked up by other teams. The Jets seem to love our guys. But rosters for everyone get trimmed so every team will have 1-4 close call cuts. We will just have a few more like 6-8. And one might be a long term regret when they play elsewhere.

Re: Handicapping the 53-man roster: August 1 edition
I agree. People sometimes forget that depth @ any position is necessary over the long NFL season grind. Hill is a capable #3 RB and a good S. Teams player (10 tackles/7 solo in 2020).
He won't be a star, but has earned his Ravens wings.
Nothing against Mason, but we've already got a FB/TE/DT in Ricard.
In games where, hopefully the Ravens are blowing out the opposition, Hill is a trustworthy 3rd option (no fumbles in 70 carries and 13 pass receptions)who can relieve Dobbins and Gus... Bc

Re: Handicapping the 53-man roster: August 1 edition
Hill is a good runner and can catch the ball, clearly a better player than Mason. Our third RB should be as good as Hill is in a 17 game season with an aim for 3 or 4 postseason games. We don't really need Mason as a goal line specialist. We have Ricard to block and Gus Edwards is a very good heavy duty rumbler.
Mason can go to PS without any anxiety.
Team personality setter (or something) - you mean for starting fights?"Flacco is driving the ball in that wind....."
