Player development is crucial and if he’s 5th in depth chart at CB it’s also about building for the future when guys like Smith and Peters aren’t around.

But training camp will answer most of our questions.

I agree with you though about trying him in the return game. A former RB seems like a logical fit for backup return guy.

If Wade returns to form as a slot CB that’s valuable considering the injury risk of Tavon.
Stephens took snaps at FS at OTAs.

EDC has talked about Stephens more than once. He has said he would be playing FS. There is no good reason for him to dwell on it one way or the other. Before the draft, scouts were saying he has played all over the secondary, but is naturally suited as an FS. Elliott is not an FS - that is not where his value lies. We don't have an FS, unless it is Stephens. You don't intelligently spend a third round pick on a defensive back to be your fifth outside CB. Stephens is not competing with Averett or Jimmy. Our own Shade Raven, bless him, a former Safety IIANM, has commented extensively on Stephens's tape at FS in this forum.

As GWNR noted, Stephens played FS at OTAs. And had a pick.

As time goes on, everyone should be able to figure this out.

It'll be interesting to see where the coaches play him.
Wiz, IMO Stephens will be groomed at FS. I don't see EDC opening up the vault for Elliot in 2022. He, along with Wade (slot CB), were fine draft choices and are "insurance policies" ... Bc

Any particular reason why all 32 teams dont start and end training camp on the same dates?

Why did Gettleman cut SSS in Carolina? Why did he trade Odell? Gettleman loves to get rid of talented players for mindboggling reasons.
    Let's win the f**king game.

He is hoping to get a big pay raise from the Texans.

.............. the oline last year was patchy and was not the greatest at pass pro. although ranked high but did not farewell. bozeman wasn't good, Phillips got torched at times in the playoff game. in fact overpowered that side Zeitler is at. i still don't know why bozeman gets the nod at starting and now at center?. now i can see why for bozeman or mekari starting but cmon

The first year post Yanda can’t be understated. You don’t just flawlessly move on from losing a hall of fame guard and plug that hole with an inexperienced player. All things considered they could have been a lot worse, but this year’s line is going to let LJ take that next step in the passing game. Not really concerned about the oline they’ve definitely addressed it.

Yep, I remember EDC comments on Stephens and like EDC said he'd defer to the coaches. I totally agree w/ EDC and Hortiz about Stephens skillset. He's a rare athlete, the most similar player I can think of is Patrick Peterson with his size at the position. He's a lot thicker then most DBs. And he chose to switch from RB to DB. (Probably a smart decision in the long run IF he makes it. DBs, especially CB make more then RBs).

It seems like the coaches thus far have been playing Stephens more at CB then at FS. (Not saying Stephens hasn't played S in camp)
But at least from the OTAs and mini-camp reports I read/heard Stephens was at CB.

He's definitely a players i'll be interested in when it comes to training camp.
I'll be very interested where he's used CB/FS...KR/PR? And what unit 1st/2nd/3rd etc.
