That's what I thought too, but according to The Athletic he's been out there every day at OTAs.

Thinking back to the draft they just said he was 'retiring' and that was his last draft. The only reason I can think of why they gave him his big send off then is because a bigger retirement will steal his thunder at the end of the season. (Belichick's certainly behaving as if this will be his last season with all the short term spending.)

Hmmm, I guess it's a working retirement year. Then he disappears into a puff of greasy black smoke...
