Ravens Sign Alejandro Villaneuva to a 2-year Deal
Jeremy Fowler
@JFowlerESPN
Alejandro Villanueva and the #Ravens have agreed to a two-year deal, per source. Two-time Pro Bowl OT can play left tackle and slide to the right side when Ronnie Stanley is healthy."Cause if you ain’t pissed off for greatness, that just means you’re okay with being mediocre, and ain’t no man in here okay with just basic.”

Heyyyy a dude that’s awful at run blocking and has never played the RT position before.
What could go wrong?!

Re: Ravens Sign Alejandro Villaneuva to a 2-year Deal
They definitely signed him to be their starter. Phillips can beat him out, but I don't think it's likely.
In watching the Steelers, on plays where he had to downblock he did well. Struggled out in space on their stretch zone.
We ran OZ about 4ish times a game last year. That's a big difference from what he was asked to do on the Steelers. They ran zone, and a lot of stretch zone all game long.
Completely different schemes."Cause if you ain’t pissed off for greatness, that just means you’re okay with being mediocre, and ain’t no man in here okay with just basic.”

Re: Ravens Sign Alejandro Villaneuva to a 2-year Deal
A high character (USMA) experienced vet next to another grizzled vet (Zeiter @RG) makes for some serious beefy wisdom on the right side. A.V. also becomes a more experienced back up LT to Stanley (if/when needed). Phillips will help keep Villanueva hungry this season while getting ready for his own eventual place on the starting OL after AV's run is done. The question mark now moves to center. Something was wrong at the end of last season with both Skura & Mekari who could barely get the shotgun snap to Lamar reliably. Injured hand? the "yips"? Ravens don't seem to have much faith in Cstillo-Colon (didn't seem to want to use him in the depths of the Skura/Mekari troubles). Bozeman centered for Alabama, which is pretty close to the real thing, if you ask me. He's up first with Mekari and/or Castillo-Colon fighting for back-up. These changes shouldn't weaken the run game and have a good chance to strengthen pass protection Cleveland might be able to join this experienced O-line as a rookie @ LG.

He's a skilled veteran in the easiest offense for linemen in the league. I think he'll be adequate. As long as Stanley is healthy and back to 100%, the projected line of Stanley/Cleveland/Bozeman/Zeitler/Phillips or AV should be much better than the final playoff line of OBJ/Bozeman/Mekari/Powers/Fluker and Phillips.
