Re: Ravens Didn't Want A Center In Draft
The methodology can also change as the they go through the board. The second 100 players are not necessarily using the same ranking system as the first 100. That’s why someone like Brandon Stephens goes at the bottom of round 3 and everyone is wondering why. This certainly doesn’t seem to be a need pick since he’s not even certain of a position. At that range of the draft BPA looks like the true best player and not need unlike round 1. There is no rule that states the methodology used to rank players at the top of the draft has to continue the whole way through.

Re: Ravens Didn't Want A Center In Draft
You guys keep forgetting how much the Ravens trade during the draft. When their BPA at the time of their pick is not a position of need, they simply trade down to a spot where their BPA is at a position of need. Furthermore the rankings are somewhat granular so that there are lots of ties. At least during the high rounds, ties between players go to positions of need.

Re: Ravens Didn't Want A Center In Draft
Mostly because BPA is a misleading term to explain how the Ravens stack their board and ultimately draft players. Adjusted BPA or Team Specific BPA or something like that would be more appropiate. Even two different teams giving all players the very same grades, assuming team specific scheme for example is already part of that grade, they would end up with slightly different boards depending on their rosters pre-Draft and drafting different guys. Oh and then you have culture fit, which is obviously huge for the Ravens (Titans, not so much) and medicals.
So many moving parts really.

This is why I think the Ravens probably had Odafe a lot higher on their boards than people expected. Odafe is a character guy and can already set the edge pretty well which the Ravens will love. He is raw as a pass rusher and that's where he needs to develop the most, but the Ravens have shown that they are not fussed about having pin the ears back edge rushers who can't do much else... yannic is a recent example of that getting only 20 snaps a game. He will probably get 80 % of the defensive snaps in Vegas.

Re: Ravens Didn't Want A Center In Draft
as I was saying:
Who else were the Ravens considering before taking Minnesota receiver Rashod Bateman at 27 and Oweh at 31? The team was also high on Miami outside linebacker Gregory Rousseau and TCU safety Trevon Moehrig. All indications are that the Ravens prioritized coming out of the first round with a pass rusher and they considered Rousseau and Oweh, who were similarly-graded players on their board, at 27. They ultimately decided on Bateman, believing that he would have been taken before they were on the clock again at 31, and rolling the dice that either Rousseau or Oweh would still be there. They gambled and won as the Buffalo Bills took Rousseau at 30, leaving them to snag Oweh.
