"The PRO Act would allow unions to override such laws and collect dues from those who opt out, in order to cover the cost of collective bargaining and administration of the contract."

"For independent contractors, the Act implements the “ABC” test. To be classified as an independent contractor, the ABC test would require that a worker be free from the purported employer’s control, operate outside the typical course of the purported employer’s business, and be customarily engaged in an independent trade. With this test, the NLRA would likely cover gig workers, such as Lyft drivers and Instacart shoppers."

So it forces non-union members to pay union dues while simultaneously cramming independent contractors into the definition of employees.

And nobody thinks you're a retarded monkey. I won't disagree that you have roughly the same IQ as the average chimpanzee, but they're apes and loveable.

Now obvious there aren’t any Professor Unions. But I was curious about the cost of benefits since I’ve never paid for them.

So you pay $500 a month. I’m guessing after taxes?
Now typical Union dues are 2 1/2 times your hourly rate a week.
So if your hourly is $30 ..weekly dues out of your check is $45. 45* 4= $180? Usually there is a monthly International Dues charge ...around $50. So $180+ $50= $230. Total a month for dues. Before taxes by the way.

That’s what it “cost “ a Union employee a month for Benefits. That’s health, vision, dental, pension, annuity ,and whatever else is in their package. There’s no extra outa pocket for any of them. The only benefit members pay for outa pocket is a 401K because it’s voluntary.

So using what you pay a month as the average ...a Union member pays half and gets more. So if this is a job to job comparison ...factory A vs factory B since the person has chosen to work at a Unionized shop ...they arnt just getting the better pay , but the better benefits also. Why shouldn’t they pay for them? You pay for yours. Why should these people be any different than you?

Actually, the professors at the college my mom used to teach at did have a union.

Ok. But unless I’m reading it wrong ...all that applies to Right to Work states.

Basically the bill seeks to overturn Right to Work. Make every State an At Will state.

Now in RTW states this bill will “force” every employee of a Unionized company to join said Union. But they can leave that company and not pay shit. Go work for a Non Union company.

This bill doesn’t apply to ALL jobs either. Just to the ones that are or become Unionized.

And for the record , while I’m Not a fan of RTW , I’m not a supporter of the Pro -Act either. If ( and I think it is ) RTW is a problem , Federal Government laws aren’t the answer. These states voted and chose to be RTW ....so be it. Any Unions that operate in RTW know this and need to come up with a way to handle it. Put language in the next /future contracts addressing this. Limit the benefits that “Non payers” get from the Union and have the Company offer those benefits. There’s lots of ways around rules , using the Corrupt Fed isn’t the answer.

And as far as the Pro-Act goes ...it’s really not an issue. I don’t see anyway it passes. Why would the Reps and Senators from the 27 RTW states vote to basically reverse what their citizens voted in? Unions don’t have enough $$ to buy that many votes anymore.

The company is providing all those benefits not the union.

How is it this is okay with you?

Suppose a guy has 28 years in and needs two more for the pension but now he is forced to join a union or lose all of that? Bullshit.

Suppose a guy has 15 years in and seniority that lets him pick his schedule but doesn't want to join a union?

Suppose a guy is making $40/hour because of his hard work and promotions but doesn't want to join?

Suppose there are no jobs in the area like the job he has now or none that pay anything close?

I don't get upset often about stuff but your sanctimonious "just get another job" is part and parcel of you leftist fascists and is infuriating. Shove it.

Damn dude. Clearly you didn’t read my whole post. I’m NOT for the Pro-Act. Period.

I’m also not ok with RTW but I don’t live in a RTW so I don’t care about it that much. I said I believe the Pro -Act is bullshit and it only seeks to over turn RTW. The people of the 27 RTW states voted that in. It’s their choice. So be it. The Fed has no right to change that.

As far as “ being ok “ with people who willingly work for a Unionized company to get better benefits and pay but willfully hide behind RTW laws so as to escape paying for those benefits and pay ...I think that’s Ridiculous. You went to that job knowing it was Union. Pay your dues and enjoy the benefits of collective bargaining.

But since the people voted to be RTW it’s not even a people issue ...it’s a Union issue. They need to fix it. They know these states have become RTW. People are gonna opt out and still reap the benefits. That’s the deal. Either deal with that or close up shop and leave that state.
