A great Zeppelin read is Hammer of the Gods by Stephen Davis. Some incredible stories.

One involving Tull that details are sketchy on, but apparently, Tull was supposed to open for Zeppelin one night. Zeppelin wanted to go on first so they could leave and chase women in the bars, so somehow they managed to play first, and after that of course, not many in the audience had much interest in the Tull set, after all, no one has much of a chance following up Zeppelin. John Paul Jones later was quoted, saying "Jethro Dull........bore 'em at the Forum"
Thanks for sharing. That brings back memories of years ago where someone in their infinite wisdom decided to book Donovan as the opening act for ZZ Top. They booed him off the stage after about a song and a half. He literally got up and walked off the stage. Brilliant. Needless to say, ZZ Top was nowhere near ready to come out, so we all just had to wait. Some woman came out afterwards and started berating the rowdy crowd. She was quickly escorted off the stage for her own safety. I mean, who books an act like Donovan to open up for someone like ZZ Top? Probably her.

Never heard that one, good story. There's a similar one about The Carpenters opening for someone, but I forgot the details.

On Black Sabbath's last tour, in the UK, it turned out that all the bands opening for them were blowing them away and making them look bad. Finally, they asked the promoter to just dig up some LA bar band that wouldn't outdo them. The result was a little known band called Van Halen. Talk about making you look bad!
