Former Raiders' WR Tyrell Williams reached agreement on a one-year deal worth up to $6.2 million with the Detroit Lions, per source.

I seriously thought free agency hadn't started yet. Are we in the so-called "legal tampering period"?

OH! I getcha. Players who get cut, at any time, are always eligible to be signed right away.

But what we call "Free Agency" is when contracts run out and the new league year starts. And that part hasn't started yet.

Any player about to become a FA can’t sign before March 17th at 4pm. Legal tampering starts March 15 but teams cheat early.

If a player is released he can sign immediately

I anticipate there will be a lot of cuts next week as teams create cap space

February 7th - Franchise tag players
Teams are able to franchise would be free agents for an extra year at this point for a steep price. Currently, it doesn’t look like the Browns will be franchise tagging anyone.

March 9th - franchise tag deadline
The last day that players can be franchise tag by their team. Players who aren’t will hurt free agency on time.

March 15th through 17th - free agency talks begin 4 p.m.
At this point teams can start reaching out to player agents and begin working on deals. Deals can be put in place and everything can be done besides that signature that makes it official.

March 17th - new league year begins, free agency starts 4:00 p.m.
