Re: Black History
King's own associate Rev Ralph Abernathy (the man in whose arms King died) has said that it was all true.

Re: Black History
I see how the game works...
Garvey an Openly Declared Black Separatist and Black Nationalist who said that Blacks and Whites are incompatible... Not a Racist
Trump... who never said or did a racist thing in his life... and until he became president was considered a model of racial harmony... actually receiving awards from the black community for same... a Racist.

Re: Black History
Lol there were four people in that article you posted who say the story he gave wasn't true at all. Who should I believe? One man who may have wanted to make a buck or 4 other people who say the story is completely inaccurate? Hmmmm...

Re: Black History
Lol so at that point in history, when Garvey was born in the late 1800s, he simply saw in countries all over the world like Australia, South Africa, America, etc.... that white people treated black people in an unconscionable way, and he thought that the best course of action would ironically be...for black people to go back to their own country...how is that racist?

Re: Black History
A white man telling me to go back to my own country because he doesn't want to contribute to my civil rights is completely different than a black man asking in earnest to go back to our country of origin in order to escape lynching, segregation, and a country founded on slavery.

Re: Black History
If you were "in school through the 90's and 2000's" and all you learned about black history was Rosa parks and "I have a dream"................please identify what planet you were living on. I taught 35 years from 1978-2013 in every imaginable demographic setting and in every scenario was BESIEGED with my Crispus Attucks analogy that apparently went over your head.

Re: Black History
Yea, I went to school in the 80’s and 90’s and I specifically recall learning quite a bit more than just King and Parks.
Harriet Tubman was a big one, although I went to school on the eastern shore, so that could be why.
Douglas was another.

Re: Black History
Graduated in 04 and that plus fire hoses were about the extent of what I remember learning with regards to black history, specifically civil rights.
To the points of others, we did definitely learn about the underground railroad and abolitionists at well.

Re: Black History
Rosa Parks was a big deal in my elementary years, but I grew up in Montgomery, Al so she's a local hero. Learned about King, Tubman, etc... Really loved Carver since he saved southern Alabama's economy.
And we didn't learn about them in one month. They were scattered throughout Alabama history, which we had to take in fourth grade and later in 10th."A moron, a rapist, and a Pittsburgh Steeler walk into a bar. He sits down and says, “Hi I’m Ben may I have a drink please?”
