Re: Cap will be at least 180M
Taking a step back for a moment, wouldn’t it be nice if your boss announces at the annual budget meeting, “Sorry folks, this year’s payroll cannot exceed 180 million dollars.” and there’s only 53 employees?

Re: Cap will be at least 180M
They had a $5 million hit to the cap last year and there will be a $5 million hit this year. If the Ravens win they will get all $10 million back. If they lose then it’s $5 million against 2021 since they already took the other $5 million hit in 2020.
Honestly I can’t see how the Ravens are going to prove that Thomas violated his contract but we only know what was reported. The basis is the domestic dispute and training camp fight but Thomas was not suspended by the NFL for either. It’s going to depend on how a judge determines detrimental conduct.

Re: Cap will be at least 180M
I don't think that is correct. This grievance isn't over any bonus money, it's over his $10 million guaranteed base salary. The bonus proration hits will always hit no matter what.
Brian McFarland posted an article a day or 2 ago about this. Instead of the cap typically getting hit with the 40% of the disputed guarantee as soon as the grievance is filed, with the remaining 60% being in limbo until the ruling, it seems nothing was impacted when it was filed. So the full $10 million of that base salary is in limbo until the ruling. Basically, there will be no credit at all if we win, but if we lose, we will be hit with the full $10 million.
I don't see how we can be a significant UFA player with that money hanging out there.Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

I don't think that is correct. There was an article stating that they Ravens have not been hit with the 10m charge that will result if they lose. The only thing showing up right now is the proration of the signing bonus. The 10m was guaranteed salary. Typically during a dispute 5m will be hitting the cap until the resolution. The article pointed out how it was odd that this has not happened in this case. The net net of the article is that if the Ravens lose they will lose an additional 10m of cap space.
