Re: Covid - eliminate the focker OR hope vaccines work
Back when I thought this thing would flip my reality on its head. Yet up to now the only person I know who passed away from it was a coworker at my old company (great guy for what its worth). Now even being a higher risk, I'm not worried at all about it. I'll wear a mask, avoid grandpa, and keep working from home but the research I'm most confident in is my own - get some cardio in and I pretty much don't have asthma. Just like 999 out of 1000 people I know I'll probably keep living.

Re: Covid - eliminate the focker OR hope vaccines work
Good posts. Both of them.
I hate lockdowns and think the above is far more effective. The problem is the cost is high.... And some thing you are saying are impractical.
Quarantine would be for international travellers, as they are the most likely way of the virus returning. Just ask NZ, Taiwan & Australia, who can’t stop citizen from returning from other countries, but have had outbreaks of the virus from quarantine workers. Those Countries have got to zero cases recently.

Re: Covid - eliminate the focker OR hope vaccines work
I know you have pointed to Australia and New Zealand in the past as examples of how countries can "get to zero", but they're just simply not comparable to the US...or really any other industrialized country. Australia is an island pretty much the size of the United States (Lower-48), but with about 8% of the population of the US (~26 million vs 331 million). Almost 25% of Australia's citizens live in Sydney.
The point I'm making is when it comes to pandemics like COVID - population density matters...A LOT. There is a reason why NYC, northern NJ, Philly, DC, and LA got hit as hard as they did - they have a shitload of people living on top of each other...sharing the same elevators, taxis, metro, etc.Disclaimer: The content posted is of my own opinion.

Between Sydney and Melbourne commuting zones, that is 50% of the population. Two cities about 5million each but 600 miles apart. Auckland has half of NZ population. I think both countries free public healthcare and the 98% social distancing & mask wearing compliance is also a big factor.
