Re: Hensley reporting Judon wants $20 mil a year

Corey Davis might be a right player/right price scenario.

I know a lot of people probably disagree, but I would be all over Juju. He's only 24 years old. He's kind of a clown, but he's better than any of our WR's. He's scheme versatile as well.

Just give JuJu a flip phone for personal use.

It has Judon at a higher market value than Yannick. That has to be solely based on his (questionable) Pro Bowl selection. Judon will be 29. Ngakoue 26. I'd be shocked if he walks away with the larger contract.

He can want that much.....he ain't getting it. Not for someone who struggles to generate pressure on his own, is merely above average at run support, and sub par in space.

If he's really expecting that he's going to flounder around like Clowney did and then settle on a 1 year deal for $10-12m.

I think you are both not realizing how little cap space teams have. That Judon so quickly shot down the rumor says to me that he knows the market is a buyers market and that he will get nowhere near $20M or even $10M this year.
While this coming year will have lower cap numbers and the market is likely to have more players available from teams cutting to get under it, young guys on their first FA contracts may not be impacted.

A long term deal can be structured to have a low cap hit this year with the remainder spread over the next several years.

It seems like loads of Ravens fans hate Judon for reasons I can't fathom. He's versatile, he's always been good, he's popular with the team and he's always given full effort. There just doesn't seem to be much to hate. A stupid penalty once a season? The fact that he's not a superstar pass rusher?

I don't know what people expect from a fifth round pick.

    Bowser 4 years/$38m

    McPhee 2 years/$7.5m
Yannick at $16 million a year is stupid money, if he actually gets that. Dude was a complete no show for us and is really only a sack specialist.

You don’t pay that much money for one trick ponies.

Penalties are clearly part of it. No Raven has had more accepted penalties since Judon was drafted than Judon. Those things do get remembered. It's like a RB who fumbles. It may not be often but when it happens it impacts the game.

The other issue is the high standard former Ravens pass rushers set. Judon has 34.5 sacks in first 5 years. Terrell Suggs had 45 in his first 5 years. Peter Boulware had 52 sacks in his first 5 years. We've also had other great free agents over the years like Dumerville and Pryce.

Whenever the Ravens have had a pass rusher who they drafted who had a short period of time at being really good and was due to be paid the fans have always turned on him. Think back to Paul Kruger or Zadarius Smith. Pernell McPhee they like now because his salary isn't huge but when he left most didn't want to pay him the big contract he got.

The perception is that Judon isn't worth top dollar therefore he's not good. It's silly but this is how it's always been with pass rushers on this team

Yannick's entire goal was to get paid as well, that seemed like his #1 motivation. For him to not show up in a contract year is a very bad sign. Does anybody seriously expect a money motivated player to get BETTER after they get a big contract? If anything he's just going to be content with his financial security and start phoning it in even more.

Yan just seems like an underperforming contract waiting to happen, he didn't really mesh into our scheme that well either. Still young enough to get better, I see the appeal of him more than Judon... but I'm pretty content letting them both walk, re-signing Bowser, and saving that extra cap space for the offense.

OLB should be addressed in the draft and on the veteran FA market if we need a stop-gap

Someone please post that gif of Bender laughing and then he says "oh wait, you're serious" then laughs longer and harder.

    Great answer.

Those sack numbers don't reflect too badly on Judon as a player, considering how good Suggs was and that Judon is playing in an era where QBs release the ball quicker than ever. I'd have expected the gap to be wider.

    Just pay Judon.
