Not sure if anybody saw this. I guess Ryan & Roman can't get into sideline fisticuffs with GRo up in the booth:

I don't think he's wrong about playing man coverage and committing to the run

FYI you can be really good at coaching a position group and really bad at calling plays for the whole defense.

Well they're certainly not too far off the mark. Which is perhaps why you & a few others were so quick to take offense or criticize/mock their comment. Pot & kettle much?

And be a great coordinator but suck as a head coach. It's just the Peter Principle.

Since Weaver got brought up in this thread, I figure this would be the most appropriate spot to put this news:

    Re: Rob Ryan

Is this the Ravens coaching staff thread, now?

    An Anthony Weaver timeline

Born July 28, 1980 in Killeen, Texas.
Of Irish-Samoan decent. Both of his parents served in the Army. His father Ralph retired as a sergeant major.

    As Player

1994-98 Saratoga Springs HS in NY. Defensive end.
Played football and basketball. Also kicked!
    National Football Foundation scholar-athlete award.
Has given financial support to the football program and needy children in the community.
Inducted 2010 into the Blue Streak Hall of Fame.

1999-2002 Notre Dame. Defensive line (HC Bob Davie)
Was one of four captains in 2001. Started four straight seasons on the defensive line for the Irish.
All-freshman first team. One of four team captains in 2001.
    Team MVP in 2001. Second-team All-American.

2002 Ravens 16 starts, 3.5 sacks. (DC Mike Nolan, DL Rex Ryan, D asst Mike Pettine)
    2003 Ravens 15 starts, 5 sacks.
2004 Ravens 15 starts, 4 sacks (Pettine to asst DL coach)
2005 Ravens 8 starts, 2 sacks (Rex to DC, CBrooks hired as DL coach, Pettine to OLB coach)
2006 Texans 15 starts, 1 sack (HC Kubiak; DC Richard Smith; DL Jethro Franklin; Robert Saleh D QC coach)
    2007 Texans 13 starts
    2008 Texans 16 starts

    As Coach

2010 U Florida Grad Asst at age 30. (HC Urban Meyer; Dan McCarney asst HC/DL coach)
2011 North Texas LB Coach. (HC Dan McCarney)
2012 Jets Asst DL coach (HC Rex Ryan; DC Mike Pettine; DL coach Karl Dunbar)
2013 Bills DL Coach (HC Rex Ryan; DC Mike Pettine)
2014 Browns DL Coach (HC Mike Pettine)
2015 Browns DL Coach (HC Mike Pettine)
2016 Texans DL Coach (HC Bill O’Brien; DC Romeo Crennel)
2017 Texans DL Coach (DC Vrabel, Crennel to Asst HC)
2018 Texans DL Coach (Crennel back to DC)
    2019 Texans DL Coach
    2020 Texans DC
It's fascinating how Weaver as DL coach ties us right back to our lineage with Rex Ryan and Clarence Brooks as DL coaches.

Also striking how – I mean, I'm sure Weaver is a good DL coach – but man, "who you know" sure hasn't hurt him in his coaching career.

(Did you know the 2006 Texans staff was a hotbed of coaching talent? Not just Saleh, but also Matt LaFleur got his start there.)

Wow. Ryan makes a lot of good points about the offense but he said Gus Edwards is just a guy....that is an incorrect observation

    A D'Anton Lynn timeline

    2008-11 Penn St Corner
3-time hon mention All-Big Ten selection

2012 Jets UDFA. Cut at end of training camp. (HC Rex Ryan; DC Mike Pettine; RB coach Anthony Lynne; Asst DL Anthony Weaver
2013 Hamilton Tiger Cats Week-long tryout, May to June

    As Coach

2013 Jets Scouting dept, age 24. (New GM John Idzik; Rex still there)
2014 Jets Coaching intern (HC Rex; Asst HC/RB Anthony Lynn; DC Dennis Thurman; DB coach Tim McDonald)
2015 Bills Defensive asst. (HC Rex Ryan; DC Dennis Thurman; DB coach Tim McDonald; OC Greg Roman)
    2016 Bills
2017 Chargers Defensive asst (HC Anthony Lynn; DC Gus Bradley; DB coach Ron Milius)
2018 Texans Asst secondary coach (HC BOB; Asst HC/DC Romeo Crennel; Secondary Anthony Midget; DL Anthony Weaver)
    2019 Texans
2020 Texans Secondary coach (Weaver to DC)

Talk about "who you know" being an advantage in coaching!

After jumping down SF's throat about Rob Ryan being a "wink hire", I'm embarrassed to see that this guy looks 100% like an "Anthony Weaver hire". I'm curious if Harbs had anyone in mind before Weaver lobbid for Lynne. We'll likely never know.

Note we still have Chirs Hewitt.
