This year reminds me of the '18-'19 Rams, if any team. Historically dominant run-based offense with a huge regression the following year. Team finishes 9-7 and third in the division. At no point were they "bad", but that offense hasn't been the same since.

Luckily the Bengals still couldn't stop beating themselves, but that game was when I knew they wouldn't be pushovers anymore. And I also remember thinking to myself while leaving that game, the Ravens win easily with just an average QB leading the offense.

Doesn’t 2020 remind anyone of 2017? Lose Yanda in Week 2, then totally embarrassed in London, then Williams hurt and run over by Steelers at home. Go 4-5 into bye, win three straight, blow 11-point lead in Pittsburgh. Finish with three supposedly ‘sure wins’ before collapsing at home to Bengals who we shut out in Week 1. 9-7, miss playoffs. Deja vu?

Both Bengals games in 2005 were blowouts, and the 2005 team never sniffed the playoffs. Game 1: https://www.pro-football-reference.c...0511060rav.htm . Game 2: https://www.pro-football-reference.c...0511270cin.htm
Ok maybe I was thinking of the wrong season for the “drunk Chris McCallister” Bengals game. Its just how I remember that 3 year period leading to Billick’s eventual firing.

In 2015, the season basically ended 3 weeks in after they started 0-3. They stole a win in PIT on TNF, but then lost 3 in a row. At 1-6, they were all but eliminated already. Flacco goes down in week 11, and we get the joy of watching Matt Schaub throw TDs to the other team, and Jimmy Clausen in mustard yellow (Mallett was actually ok!).
I compare the 2007 team to 2020 for the same general trend ... started out ok but the wheels came off the Jalopy quite quickly, all the while failing to recapture any sense of the form of the previous season.
