I lived it, too. Granted, I PCS'd out of Germany in '92. But 1), they aren't socialist, and 2) the Germans standard of living is on a par with ours and they have higher savings rates. They pay more in some areas, less in others. Single-payer health care means they have more opportunities in employment, as well.

If you sliced out the top 1% of both countries, their average incomes don't drop as much as ours. They also have more social mobility than the U.S. That's just Germany, but northern Europe and Scandinavia generally do, as well. Southern Europe is more of a basket case.

The Democrat and Republican Party is actually similar in many ways in the way they throw up tons of nonsensical red herrings with social issues to distract from issues that actually affect our pockets and way of life and the fact that they are all corporate stooges.

For example, Republicans would have you believe the blm organization leader being a trained Marxist actually has a huge effect on your everyday life. I guarantee you more Republicans are worried about that than the government constantly expanding NSA spying privileges while censoring and demonizing whistle-blowers.

Should you worry about activists coming to destroy your town? Sure, maybe. Should I worry about white people randomly committing mass murders? Sure, maybe. But, the fact of the matter is that a white man committing mass murder inside of my church is out of my control. All of my focus and smoke should be for the politicians that routinely ignore the issues that I and the vast majority of working class face.

I love what Andrew Yang said about this (which should be obvious). The Caucasian mass murderer doesn't decide to just pick up a gun and shoot the day of. There are many many steps that come before it that lead to that decision. It makes little sense to sit there and demonize the final step if we can take steps to help the person beforehand and prevent the final step. Obviously this approach isn't popular since it doesn't make money.

The same can be said for riots. The media would have you focus on the final product as opposed to many many things it took to get people in a place where they felt they had to protest and riot.

There are serious ceilings. Here you can be anything. There you are born of money or you are not if your are a poorer family as an example you are destined to be a tradesman. If you have money you become engineers doctors those kinds of things just as an example. My wife tells me all the time here you can start from nothing and become something no matter what age there you can not once you get to a certain point you couldn't say change careers and become something else you are stuck in it or live off the government. The reasons those people are happy is because that is all they know once you step out and see other systems pretty much every foreigner I know say they love that America you can be anything. My wife was making 4600€ before taxes for the month and took home 1600€, and you only get paid one time. You still live tightly because out of that you gotta pay rent food electricity car payments and everything. One top of that you 19% sales tax on pretty much everything. Gas was about $7 a gallon. They pay for health care as well but the doctors there loved tricare(military insurance)because they actually got paid for their work and you got better care and treatment when you had it. They loved renting to Americans because they could charge what the house is worth. The regular house the Americans would live in the average German could not afford.That's not to say it's all negative. As her and I both say the best thing would be a combination of both

You, know, I work with a few people that had immigrated from India, and they said the same thing about how they loved that you can go back and reinvent yourself /switch careers if you want to here.
