DeShon & Minkah
I'm a couple years late to the party on this one. But here's something I don't understand:
drill Minkah Fitz Deshon Elliott Draft Rd 1st 6th Height: 72-1/8 inches 72-7/8 Weight: 204 205 Wingspan: 75.125 77.75 40 Dash 4.46 4.58 10 Split 1.52 1.59 Vertical 33.0 36.0 Broad 121 121 Bench 14 15
I got no problem with Minkah being a 1st. But how is DeShon a 6th??Last edited by JimZipCode; 10-26-2020 at 11:02 PM. Reason: corrected Minkah's height

Re: DeShon & Minkah
Hell of a lot more to being a football player than measurables. Minkah was coming out of Alabama and one of the best prospects in his draft. Literally did it all in college. Also it was easy to impress when everyone else on the D with him were complete studs. Elliot came from Texas and no one plays defense in the Big 12.
Do you want us to tell you why from the numbers you posted? The only one that’s glaring is Elliot’s 40. A 4.6 in today’s NFL can be exploited severely easily with how much space FS need to cover in the back end of a defense.

Re: DeShon & Minkah
looks like he was projected to go anywhere from 2nd to 4th round. don't know why he fell so far. he's been good so far this year, despite the board having a long debate about who will replace him midseason. he is not minkah fitzpatrick though, but we don't really need him to be

Re: DeShon & Minkah
Looking at Elliot’s draft profile... He never had an issue with coming down and being a sure tackler.
His main issue was no one believing he had the athleticism or speed to compete with NFL level talent in the open field. Those numbers you posted back up that theory.

Re: DeShon & Minkah
Anyone watched All-22 of our D this season, to get a sense of how Elliott has played on the back end?
I know zilch about safety play. Is he more of a single-high type for us, free safety? I assumed Check was the "thumper" SS of the two – though certainly Elliott beings thump – but maybe I have it backwards.

Zrebiec wrote this when he profiled Elliott a couple weeks ago (definitely worth the read):

Re: DeShon & Minkah
My very unscientific, based-on-eye-and-memory response is that they rotate both Clark and Elliott down into the box, sometimes leaving the other as single high, sometimes blitzing both and leaving Smith/Gilchrist deep. That versatility is one positive of the Clark/Elliott combination (in comparison to say Thomas/Clark or Thomas/Jefferson).
filmstudy could probably provide a much better breakdown based on numbers and not memory.Shared Google Folder with Ravens spreadsheets, nextGen charts, and more! Please share my content! (attribution to Twitter requested)

Re: DeShon & Minkah
Players are more than Height/Weight/Speed measurements.
Though, that said, from your numbers a few things pop out as glaring differences.
Ninja his more than 2” taller, thus may have been seen as a better fit in today’s NFL covering TE’s.
With similar 10 yard splits, Minkah’s 40 is .12 faster, meaning his long speed is much better.
So again, putting aside on field play, interviews, workouts, brain pans and what not, as simply H/W/S prospects, Minkah projects to be a significantly better coverage safety, while Deshon’s measurements project him more limited in center field and a candidate to stick around the box more.

Re: DeShon & Minkah
Don't know where those numbers came from, but Minkah Fitzpatrick is not 6'3"+
