That’s exactly why specialists and role players aren’t good on offense in many ways. Even if you mix up formations player x being on the field with y types of plays only sends the same type of signal.

At the same time, you can put a lot of film out that shows tendencies and still beat bad teams and then violently break those tendencies when needed against good teams (not when you’re getting your doors off like KC) and do great things. Ed Reed did that to Payton. Can the offense do that? Who knows.

And yes this week it’s probably a good idea to test the heck out of whoever is taking Bush’s spot on the defense. I’m sure Pitt will plan for it. Gonna be interesting to see how the Ravens handle this defense.

Call up our buddy Joe Douglas and make a deal for Crowder and Herndon or Griffin.

Thanks Jacks, I picked up the same thing over the last few weeks too. I wonder if more of this has been spotted throughout the past 6 weeks.

Coming into this game, Edwards had played 95 snaps. 7 were kneels, and 1 was nullified by penalty. Of the remaining 87 snaps, 47 were runs and 40 were passes.

Good stuff Chaos. Have you noticed anything of the sort to tip off defenses?

Count me in on Antonio Brown.

Don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell of us signing him, but I'd be for it at this point. I don't see many other significant impactful signings or likely trades at this point.

Also, I don't have any real hope for Roman scheming up this great passing offense, but he is a great run schemer...and they need to continue to scheme up some running plays different from last year. I loved the zone read wrinkle on Lamar's TD run...I said in a thread during the game that the vast majority of our zone runs are RB's taking the dive with Lamar taking the edges depending on the DE/Edge read. We've been seeing lots of defenses adjust to it by having the edge guy take the RB and ILB's scrape over the top to run with Lamar and take away the running lanes outside. Well, on Lamar's zone run TD run, we actually had the RB head to the edge and Lamar took the dive...the LB's and safeties completely took the bait and ran with Dobbins while the middle of the field was wide open. We gotta see more of adustments like that so teams can't just sit on the zone reads.

Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Right about now I'm leaning towards bringing in another TE and moving Boyle back in the spot they are using Ricard. Ricard for as big as he is is not opening the holes Boyle made last season.

In addition to all the very intelligent suggestions above, I'd recommend that the coaching staff reconsider Ricard's role. Cute gimmick for a while, but is there a loner term benefit? Also, the Oline should be our five best players. Period.
Not much really matters, and the rest doesn't matter at all.
