Thread: David Irving

So he has been conditionally re-instated. Should we have any interest?

Irving, who last played for the Cowboys in 2018, missed the 2019 season after being suspended for repeated violations of the league's substance abuse policy - including multiple missed drug tests. In March of 2019, Irving proclaimed he "quit" football. That has seemingly changed, as his representation contacted Jay Glazer, who helped Aldon Smith in his recovery and build a path back to the NFL. Irving will be 27 years old in August.

Maybe if it summer during a normal year youd take a flier like with Rolando McClain. Its not as if Irving can play immediately can he? Seems like a guy youd definitely need to do your homework on. The quitting is worse than the drug stuff.

He wasn't that good to begin with. Aldon Smith was a dominant player before his troubles began. Irving was a mediocre pass rusher who didn't offer anything else.

From a football standpoint, I'd be more interested if we didn't have Calais Campbell. Not sure where he fits in on this defense.

He'd be a nice rotational piece, but I doubt that either he or the team is interested in that.

Per PFF 2018 (his last full season was 2017):
Irving showed in 2017 that he can rush the passer when on the field His 83.1 pass-rush grade was the seventh-highest by an interior defender. His 8.6 pass-rush productivity that season was tied for the second-highest behind only Aaron Donald, three-time PFF Defensive Player of the Year. Irving has also recorded pressure in 22 consecutive games, but between suspensions and injuries, it is a question if he will be available.

Also Aldon Smith is 31. Irving is still only 27

Wolfe first of all is doubtful to play because of a concussion and sat out the washington game due to an undisclosed injury as well. ideally LDE but he can also slide inside in obvious pass situations. There a ton of snaps available for someone who can rush the passer because outside of Campbell we aren't getting much

One of the Raiders coaches is a former Cowboys coach, knows him from Dallas.

And he apparently will be signed by the Raiders this coming week. He lives in Vegas.
