They aren't white supremicists. The origins of the group were a gag. Their tenets are pro-women, acceptance of homosexuals, anti-pornography... they do not discriminate based on race.

The white supremacist smear is used to try to destroy any organized group that stands up the left wing fascist mobs that are terrorizing conservative groups on college campuses and in the public square.

Democrats have allowed them to rampage for months now and they've gotten some cover because they have been mistaken as somehow being part of the "social justice/racial equality movement" going on. They are just far left rabble and losers. Bernie Bro's basically.

I don't think the Proud Boys are white supremacists. They're authoritarian nutjobs, but not white supremacists. They rejected the Unite The Right rally and recommended their members not attend, for example, though perhaps they just knew it was going to be a nasty clusterfuck.

Some of the members may be, of course, but the group as a whole isn't.

But I understand why many think they are: white supremacists and white nationalists have used "Western civilization" and "Western culture" as a code for "white" for quite a few decades now.

The Proud Boys are a natural reaction to ANTIFA...who are also authoritarian nutjobs on the other side of the political circle.
