Re: Jimmy Dore Show
Serious question meant in a non political way...
Has anyone on here ever heard an explanation as to why it is if government healthcare would cost so much more and be so inefficient why does the medical community howl at the government saying their medicare/medicade rates are to low and dont allow for profit. It would seem that at least for healthcare delivery the government would be cheaper.

In more cases than not we would have the same people performing the procedures wouldnt we? We would also have better physical coverage for more of the population as well wouldnt we. Many rural areas have very limited access to care at this point it seems. Quality care is good but not if you cant get to it.

The UK already has a shortage of doctors and nurses. Chalk one up for socialized medicine.

Re: Jimmy Dore Show
We presently have a system where the numbers of doctors is artificially constrained by the AMA. The number of specialists is constrained by the AMA. This was shown to be true as far back as the 60s. We would be flooded with doctors if it were not for this artificial constraint.Packard as Under Sec of Def opened the Uniformed Services Medical School in Bethesda because the military needed doctors for the Vietnam war and the AMA refused to open schools to more qualified students. We presently only admit a small percentage of qualified applicants. Would we lose some of those applicants if the pay scale was lower? No doubt, but enough to have a greater shortage than we do now, especially in rural areas?
The only reason we would have a shortage of doctors IMO is if we continued to let the AMA control the numbers as we still do. We can pay doctors a very good salary and still save money..

I don't follow his political show too closely but he's an excellent comedian. He has some great bits on his youtube channel and I believe he does live comedy as well.

Re: Jimmy Dore Show
You also have regulations that stifle innovation. One reason for the panic over shortage of beds during initial covid outbreaks was caused by Certificate of Need laws in land states. Seems like a good idea to ensure money isn’t wasted and yet it stifles innovation and preparedness.
The most acute of those problems: America simply doesn't have enough hospital beds to handle the expected influx of patients suffering from COVID-19. In many places, that shortage of beds is the result of state-level regulations—known as "certificate of need" laws, or CON laws—that artificially limit the supply of medical equipment. Those laws help politically powerful hospital chains limit regional competition and inflate health care costs, but they also create shortages of medical equipment that could prove disastrous during a pandemic.
Certificate of need laws are on the books in 35 states, but they differ from place to place. Their stated purpose is to keep hospitals from overspending, and thus from having to charge higher prices to make up for unnecessary outlays of capital costs. But in practice, they mean hospitals must get a state agency's permission before offering new services or installing a new medical technology. Depending on the state, everything from the number of hospital beds to the installation of a new MRI machine could be subject to CON review.
