Just curious how this all works there.

Here we get a minimum of 28 days full pay holidays.

Maternity leave is 52 weeks in the uk.
My company has unlimited PTO...so...I can use it how I see fit. The motto here is..."do your job and enjoy your family."

Tbh, everything is different from one company to another.

At my old company...I had 30 fully paid PTO days + 2 "sick days."

I think a lot of companies are moving to this kind of a model. It's just (administratively) a lot easier to manage.

I'm straight up commercial world. No government contracts or government anything. That was the first 14 years of my career, last 14 all commercial. I had to grind to being where I am and now have 25 days PTO a year plus Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, 4rth, Labor Day, Memorial Day. It's nice. The older you get the less that bullshit starting from very little feels acceptable to you. I been where I'm at since 2014.

Lax is union. Which is close to commie. Of the species of commie though working man/tradesman commie is better than public sector/government employee union commie. SEIU=yuck.

It's also an easy way to see who is serious about the job. You can weed out the shitty employees pretty quickly. Someone like NCRAVEN wouldn't last 10 mins in a model like this. He'd send a bunch of "PTO requests" to his boss on the first day on the job and not think anything of it. He's a slacker. Almost a bum...but not quite there yet.

Most places you accrue more time off the longer you been there or you can also prenegotiate if you have that option. Been at my current job 27 yrs now and receive 5 weeks vacay, 5 personal days, 10 sick days and you also get 3 straight days of bereavement for close family members and jury duty pay plus most federal holidays (if you work you just get the extra pay thrown in). No complaints but you have to work your way for the more time. All jobs are diffrent tho but when you have competition its a good thing.

If I did not know you were a guy with actual enviable working guy skills I might be tempted to look down at you. My nephew dropped out of college and is a union electrician. He's in his 20's married owns his own home and is a stingy little MF. He's built for it too. Stocky, not too tall. He'll be retired younger than me and the way he is earning and is with money will do very well.
